I picked up a 900mW 445 DIY portable on LPF in a jayrob stainless host... its really nice, unfortunately turning the pot down all the way on the driver it still does like 350~400mW... so maybe an inline resistor is in order or something...

need 2 modify the driver for lower current. Adding a series/ inline resistor will just force the driver to work harder. Now a resistor across the diode to shunt some current may be a improvement, but will result in heat. I'd mod or change the driver.

I haven't examined the driver enough to figure out what needs to be done, chances are just move a solder blob over or something, but I have been way to busy with the other 10 parallel projects I have going on lol

Hi folks,
I have just measured an arse-stick and can tell you the following.

It is black and heavy.
Power = 1320mw stable to 5% after a few minutes.
Beam = horrible but usable with 10mm wide scanner mirrors (tennis ball at 30ft)
Reverse engineering not really reasonable since it is VERY glued in the interesting bits.
Gets warm pretty fast so I didn't leave it on very long.
Very dangerous (even switched off it would give you a nasty bump on the cranium) but at least it doesn't roll around on the table.
Can't measure current draw due to owner paranoia about external PSU and wires poking into his brand new battery compartment.
I have explained to him that if it doesn't switch on for any reason NOT to look down the down the barrel without unloading the battery.

What else does anyone want to know ?
Oh yes, the light that comes out of one end is blue!

What type/model of LPM did you measure the output on...

Ophir Optics INC Model10-P-110.
I adjust it (if necessary and it rarely is) every time I go past a Coherent Rolls-Royce and have every reason to believe it unless my various gas lasers have suddenly had a power surge without telling their photodiodes. (These include a couple of old purelights, a lexel and a spectra). The two little 150mw violet diodes tested on vendors meter I bought a while ago are also showing their original outputs using this same meter.

All in all give it 5% max error margin. Not nice to get in the eye!

Fortunately none have turned up on the "disco circuit" in the Costa Brava as yet and I am warning disco owners as fast as I meet them. They understand that a visual (with glasses) demonstration by lighting a cigarette within half a second shows clearly what would happen to an eyeball. They also get a lecture on BLUE/VIOLET!

Don´t you dare call BS!!! (just kidding)



Please keep in mind this is JUST FOR FUN.. so don´t crucify me because of the build quality... it was put together in 20 minutes, in a PC Server case, with a router and wireless DMX interface. Thanks to the powerful fans on the case I could keep it running for 3 hours without overheating. Output is just a tad dimmer than with the batteries (3,7 v x 3,4v from the PSU)
