    Unhappy Die4driver 445nm/405nm #2 dies ?

    I was attaching wires on the 2nd board I ordered, die 4 driver and decided to attach it to one of my 405nm modules last night. being careful I adjusted the pot for the output, then suddenly smoke from a few of the components from the top trace of the board! My new die4laser board just died! I haven't a clue why this occurred. the voltage was well within the range and it was mounted on a heat sink. There were no shorts on the board...

    strange because it was working so well before. My other driver on the other hand that was been hooked up is totally fine.

    hmm. What shall I do. This unexpected.

    did you have dvr and set linked?

    nope. dvr and set should never be linked on the 445nm driver.

    looks like d1 and u1 died . strange. I just tried my red driver and took measurents off the same components for a comparison. think i better fire off an email to die4lasers.


    No voltage out from the driver. d1 looks like part of the problem.

    here you go. There is nothing on the board that looks like a problem. driver is a 445nm version.

    The driver arrived back at my doorstep this AM.

    D1 and U1 have both gone to Silicon Heaven likely due to operating conditions

    For D1 to go in this way, blowing off a chunk from the top of the device package (should read KZ3, most of the Z is AWOL) it has seen a low impedance source either more than 5.6V with respect to GND or lower than 0.7V WRT GND.

    Might want to double check supply connections and perhaps put a 1k resistor in series with the MOD pad which should save the diode from low impedance out of range inputs.

    Driver has been given the kiss of life and is recuperating doing some light duties on the test-bench.
    It will be back in the post tomorrow morning.....
