    Hey folks,

you sure you really want a pointer? No temperature stabilization, not fit four your speedy galvos, simple TTL (hey, there's only a on/off button ) and not that cheap... just for pointing? So, what's the point (to make a point)? ;-)

I'd go for a real blue DPSS, square and fair, little bigger, about as costly (hmmm, nay... cheaper!), but more versatile and brighter. Suits your projectors much more :-)

I'd go for the real McCoy if I wouldn't own one already ;-)

    Cheers

By now, Liteglow already has a DPSS blue laser (with analog modulation) for his projector. I think at this point he's interested in a pointer more for the novelty value than anything else. (For that matter, I believe that *MOST* of the users here would only buy a blue pointer for the novelty value.)

I can quote both of you about that...

Yes I know a pointer is just to "point"
And yes I have a RGB dpss with 200mW blue

But when I have a 80mW green pointer, 100mW red pointer...
I sure want to have a blue pointer in my collection

THAT is my piont !!!! 8)

    Point taken ;-)

I just wanted to make sure no newbie reading the thread confuses pointers with real lasers

I'm beyond hunting and gathering, too many lasers stored on shelves, collecting dust... ;-)

    Christoph! Heresy!

How can you say you're beyond hunting and gathering? He who dies with the most lasers wins!

Just kidding... I've got a boat-load of lasers sitting around that I'm not using either. Yet I keep buying more of them. It's a disease, I tell you...

"Pointer? You call THAT a pointer? ... THIS is a pointer..."

Bigger? Beautiful! As I said, collecting dust.

    Yeah, it's a desease, I can tell ;-)

    Christoph;

Wow! That is one long-ass hene tube! How much power does it make?

I don't think I've even got a power supply that could light that thing. (I'm guessing it takes about 4,000 volts to run, right? With a starting pulse up around 15KV?)

I used to have a 20-inch HeNe head that I could just barely light with my largest HeNe PSU, but it was a green HeNe and never made any light. I gave it to Sam Goldwasser, and he managed to get about 600 microwatts of green out of it. Wierd...

You are quite right about the voltage, and yes, I can quote you saying "I don't think I've even got a power supply that could light that thing." - me neither :-( I could get is sparking, though...

I was always looking for something providing at least 6,5 mA/3600V above, that should be sufficient, but it takes your first born and an arm to buy one of these PSUs off the shelfs, and one hardly gets used units...

So I'm still waiting for the "catch"... :-)

Btw, it's supposed to glow off about 18 mW (maybe 20) of nice red polarized light. :-)

    Cheers
