Pinging sends a message to the server and forces it to reply with info such as how long it took to get the message there and back...
You just type this in a command promt:
ping www.photonlexicon.com -s 4
All the rest is the output results... Then copy/paste it
You can also use traceroute, this will tell you which path across the Internet the message took and you can work out from there where there is a bottleneck in the networks slowing things down..
Just type: tracert www.photonlexicon.com
This will end up looking like this:
over a maximum of 30 hops:
1 1 ms 1 ms 1 ms 192.168.1.1

Ever since the forum moved to the new server last night, things have been - different.
As a general rule, things are pretty snappy, but every now and then things update really slow. It's usually just for a single refresh though, and I haven't had anything time out yet, so that's a plus.
I think this place is just growing so fast that we're outstripping the server capacity. I guess that's a good thing in a way, but it might mean yet another move in the near future...
EDIT: Just realized that the move to the new server hadn't occurred yet when I posted this. So it must have been the same old problems with the old server that I was experiencing. In short, nevermind!
