    Cool

    Laserman121;

    The microflex driver is designed for pointers, not for lab modules. That's not what you want.

    If you build your own driver using an LM-317 regulator, all you will be able to do is turn the diode on and off. You will not be able to modulate it, so it will not work for a laser projector application. Since your goal is to build a projector, it would be silly to build a lab module that doesn't support modulation right from the start.

    To be able to modulate the diode, you need a special driver that can control the in-rush of current when the output transistor turns on. This is not a trivial task! Get it wrong, and the first time you power up the diode you'll kill it. And even if you have a schematic for a decent driver that supports modulation, I don't think you'll be able to build one for less than you can buy a completed Flex-Mod driver for.

    The Fledmod P3 driver is *cheap*. Much cheaper than a commercial laser driver from any of the big laser companies. Seriously, we're talking about $36 here. You paid more than that for the diode you have.

    I understand that you want to try to save money, but in this case you are making a mistake. Trying to build your own driver from scratch that supports high-speed analog modulation is a fools errand, unless you're an electrical engineering student and want to do it for the challenge. But there's no way you'll save money that way.

    What's worse, taking short-cuts to keep the cost down is a sure way to kill your diode. Just bite the bullet and order a Flexmod. You'll be happy you did.

    Cool

    That driver will work. It will be interesting to see your final cost when you're finished, however. I'll be surprised if it's much less than the cost of a Flexmod.

    We are talking about $36,- for a quality driver.

    I think you need to find another hobby...

    FlexMod P3 is the way to go even if I have a box of parts here to build Any power unit. You can not kill the unit. It will drive almost any Diode. Trust Us on this one. but have fun. JH

    Default driver for 445nm

    Lasever's LSR-PS-I works for the 445nm diodes. The price is $60. Please read my post in this post group.
