For example Ru(bpy)3 has an absorption maximum at 450 nm in water and emits at 625 nm and the triplet state has a lifetime of 600 ns at room temperature.
One big reason why you don't see triplet lasers is that the energy of T2 is almost always less than 2x the energy of T1. The result is that the harder you pump them, the more they absorb their own output. This is the same reason why you can't lase uranium glass -- it has ESA [Excited-State Absorption] that overlaps its emission.

Just looking for some information as to what this might be, most of the conversation on the red dye laser was over my head, but from this, were there not just red laserscopes also?

"Laserscope KTP/659- 800 series 659.5nm. This is a specially modified unit that was used in clinical trials. The optics have been changed for Nd:YAG operation at 1319 nm and SHG at 659.5 nm. Q-switched 8 Watt average power, air-cooled 220Vac. Used and tested system. "

Yes, a 60 watt laserscope gets you 15 watts of DEEP RED when modded. 659 aint great for what he's doin. He would be looking at 1500-2500 just for the crystal, let alone the optics. (yes, I have phi and theta for red KTP if ya need it JON, but no idea what the OC trans needs to be, DNA EQu probably has some red sets)

Jon, if you need inspiration, a certain PF tour supposedly used Copper Vapor Pumped Dyes for red, instead of Gold Vapor Lasers. So I'm told. We both know the guy who built them, too. You might want to ask that fellow in Winter Garden, Fla what he suggests for modulation.

Yeah, that's not a 'new concept', but the color is the problem, for light shows... and, Steve - iirc, Sir Greg Mak used a custom-made Lee Laser, to get the ~ 20W of 659.. he said it was 'very fussy', and did not like being outdoors, with 'swings' in ambient-temps... they ditched it.. I think I have a pic, somewhere... ah, yes...

but, now - this is waay-beyond 'concept'... Click image for larger version.

RE: Copper vapor - yes, also heard of that (and how amazing the colors / fx-were, at concerts..) , but this client wouln't be too-keen on having to lug a 9 foot x 10 foot bus onto their stage... This-design will be fairly tidy / luggable, and... *bright*... ..and 'Gen II' will-be even smaller, entire head ~ 12" x 24" x 36", and entire cooling / power-sys, ~ 24" x 19" x 28", and highly 'luggable'....

Anyhoo, off to the shop / dungeon...
