hmn no offense, but when I shared my stuff I shared it because I wanted to make it public for free.
Not to make it some member exclusive feature.
What exactly makes someone a "contributing member" and how would this be checked?

Well that kinda makes me want to stop sharing stuff I had planned to share in the near future.

Now if he had turned up and introduced him/herself properly

I generally agree that if you take pennies from the ILD/Showfiles tray, you should feel compelled to contribute pennies to the tray as well. That said, I have been asking for very limited post access to the FTP server for this very purpose for two years. In my case, I am a contributing member of PL and I have even had references from senior guys sent to spec to help with the approval. Unfortunately, I haven't even received a response after three attempts.

How can we expect newer members to contribute content to the FTP server if we never grant them access to do so?

Is there another means of contributing content other than posting as a thread here on PL? PL posts quickly get dusty and are not adequate as a replacement to the FTP server, IMO.

99% of the first time askers are just grabbers ,which is why admin limited access
Now the genuine new users could start off with placing thier first few contributions in a thread ,to show that
They are not just grabbers, then pm admin ,asking nicley for ftp access to further contribute

Hi Evan

There is a reason you cannot access the full ftp server. This is due to the fact that some time ago a number of new members were up to mischief, they were deleting files and generally causing mayhem with the ftp site.

Since then we tend to have a policy that will allow new members 'read only' access. At some point, assuming you stick around and get to know a few folks here, you'll be able to request full access rights.

For now try the following...

Oh, wait a minute though...

First you can do something for me . Post an introduction about yourself and why you are interested in lasers. Become a part of our community and join in the discussions, read and learn, and if you're able to, contribute your knowledge and pay something back for the files you're about to download. What hacks people off here is folks arriving and demanding to know the PL ftp login details so they can download loads of free stuff without making any contribution of any sort as if it's some God given right. I do hope you're not one of those people, although I do notice your first four posts are all demanding the ftp login details... Hey ho. What am I to think???

Gosh!... To be sincere... also my partner always accuses me of being too generous to others ...
But... this is my nature I apologize.

PL forum is known between all laser hobbyist of whole world because (people says) "we are a great family"

Maybe, in future, that guy could fill the PL server with a lot of wonderful shows.....
It would be wonderful, do you think?
Who knows what fate has in store for us?
