    ok good
at this time you need to know there is some risk for the rest.
make this at your own risk.
on the picture below cut where indicated an place an amperemeter as show
turn on the laser and read the current flowing.

    Cut the WHOLE track?

Im willing but how would i go about reconnecting it? Just solder over the top?

I must sleep now, i will try this Friday \ Sat.

    Thanks,
    Regards,

yes cut the track at the red mark.(only the V1 not the GND)
you can close it after with solder.

Readings WITH a cut track :

    Multi meter settngs :

    200u : 02.0
    2000u : 022
    20m : 0.21
    200m : 01.7

    Voltages :

    V1 : 3.80v
    V2 : 3.79v

    Thanks,
    Regards,

    the current values ares strange.
are you sure of the reading? the fuse inside the multimeter is not blowed?
because such laser have a current consumption of about 200 to 500mA

I have fused the MM direct with some wire as my local shop was out of 250ma fuses.

I thought those readings were about 200ma, going along the lines of the whole 22 thing.

    Im pritty sure its correct.

Is it possible to apply a direct voltage to the head to test it?

Shall i take an ampage reading on 1 of the wires going to the head?

If so is it ok to do that useing a bit of wire as a fuse?

    AJM

    i not really understand.
what is the amount of current flowing between the cuted tracks?
at this time do not try to powering the head without the electronic board to avoid damaging it!
i need to know the current consumption to design the power supply.

The current between the cut track reads :

    200u : 00.8
    2000u : 008
    20m : 0.07
    200m : 00.6

Which reading are you wanting out of those 4, IE what setting am i meant to be using?

If you use MSN messenger, could you PM me your address please.

Much easier to talk \ can show you things live on camera.

    Thanks,
    Regards,

    Aidan

i not have msn at this time.
but are you sure to be in DC current mode not AC?
because the value measured is too low for a laser diode. this is strange...

As far as i can see its correct.

I have 2 sockets i can use on the MM :

10ADC (10A max unfused) - Cant get a reading on this one

VΩmA (600v - 200mA max) - This is the plug on the MM im taking the reading from.

Just to be 100% sure, my readings are being taken from between these 2 points : Image Here

Image of cut track here (zoom in)

    Thanks,
    Regards,

    Aidan
