    A rough analogy

    Absolutely, think of the emitter as a row of people with hosepipes, they are squirting their hoses through a narrow doorway (the beam pinch point); imagine how the water would exit the other side of the door.

    Now expand the doorway (Beam pinch point) to the same width as the row of hoses.......
