Well, my 'Eastern' USB server (Taiwanese) arrived today, and this evening it has been BSODing my laptop with absolute perfect regularity, every time I tried to boot LP or QS. It sees the FB3 fine and allows me to connect using the little server interface GUI, but upon trying to boot any software it crashes drastically as it tries to start the FB3 hardware.
I'm going to RMA this one, and have just found a Belkin FL5009uk device on ebay for £35 delivered. However, I am still a little concerned that I'm yet to read a report here of one working successfully with FB3 and LP.

I thought it fitting, considering the rocky terrain.
Well, Mr Badger kindly hooked me up with this old thread, but it didn't really come to much conclusion... other than LivePro (at the time) looked like it had some problems with the Belkin adapter (but it seems, less problems than I've just had with the 'generic' adapter I tried) Sounds like the Belkin may be the closest option and I'll have to see if I can work something from there.

WOOOOT I HAVE THAT EXACT ROUTER *Not in use anymore*
I call it mikunetwork for no reason it's running perfectly and is on running on an higher power with dd-wrt.
Sadly I got no fb3 to try this for you.
No worries, my FL5009uk is on its way anyway, and I'll see if I can get it working. I've already emailed Bill to see if he can offer any advice based on prior experience (other than 'buy a QM.net' of course...)

Ooh, Dan!! My hero! Are you using the Belkin? Got any advice for setup?
Interestingly, Alexey at Pangolin just informed me that LivePro can control another LivePro on another machine via IPX - shame I just sold my old show laptop after upgrading it....![]()

In short:
- UPGRADE TO LATEST FIRMWARE (the Belkin)
- There is some ticky boxy thing in the config app that handles connection drops and user access. Can't remember the wording off hand, but it's obvious I seem to remember.
- Use some new version of LivePro within the last 3-6 months; they used to go *REALLY* ape when FB3 dropped out, but as of version xxx.xx they handle the loss of FB3's really well. It just "Stops" the output, wait for re-connect, press "play". Don't know when this changed, or if it's just my odd setup that's making that work well
Haven't gig'd with that setup; just use the QM.NET's...
But for the endless hours of use around the flat, seems to hold it's own. No (unintentional) drop-outs I can remember.
I want to run 5 FB3's off it one day... (I think that's the limit to the Belkin box)
I did actually have a photo of it somewhere...
FB3.NET
=
Was an FB3 + a bit of gaffa tape attaching it to the belkin box
<tangent>
I was working on a new configuration of a possible laser setup; FB3/EthBridge/WiFiAP all in one bundle (Or QM.NET/WiFiAP would work TBH...). Nothing new there, but the main work was to configure it so it acted as a single WiFi "node". Plan was to connect these nodes randomly around an arena/stage etc. and the nodes would talk to each other wirelessly and build the network between themselves. When connecting from your laptop, it would just "tap in" to this mesh and work as normal. This solves many issues of using a single AP and connecting all to that; i.e. single point of failure, and no signal range expansion etc.
(I don't trust a single WiFi link for controller lasers... at least for paid shows, where stuff *needs* to work.)
I got pretty far with it, but turned lazy in the end and just suck with good 'ol cat5e
If such a job crops up in the future that really needs numerous linked projectors with no connecting net. wires; I'll dust it off

Cheerio,
Dan
- There is no such word as "can't" -
- 60% of the time it works every time -
15 USB 'devices' actually....I want to run 5 FB3's off it one day... (I think that's the limit to the Belkin box)
The tangent stuff looks interesting, I'm probably looking at cat5 really though, its significantly cheaper than 2x 50m+ runs of ILDA
