Hmm, that link got abbreviated and so wont work.

Sure thing Are you a Windows or Mac person?
I'm a Mac and Windows person but I prefer to use MacOs if I can.

I've installed that add-in to Solidworks and saved the DT 40 Pro driver board as a .dae file. Here is a jpeg snapshot of the SolidWorks assembly before I exported. I tried to insert the .dae file here but the file type isn't supported. Can I change the file extension to a pdf or something to make it happy and you change it back when you download it?

Failing that, pm me your current email and I'll send it.

We'll work out the ftp thing later after we know these file translations work.

This model is an assembly. It is mostly one part, the white molex headers are seperate parts. hopfully they don't go missinf or get mutated. If it opens ok, post some snapshots of the results so we can see how intact it is.

    Fingers crossed

    Thanks Kit

Your .dae file looks as follows in Google SketchUp...

    simulation.png

Another one to test would be a .step file. I see from your fixed link that this is supported in SolidWorks.

If you can use .step files thats great. As Chad mentioned before they are a good file type to use for CAD as I think a lot of the feature detail is retained.

If you can help me do it we could upload copies in different formats for people to use.

Maybe we should do a pole to see what programs people are using and what their preferred file types are.

I don't use .step files, but that's I make limited use of CAD in general. but I can use it =)

if your really exchanging models and want max compatibility and the most features and detail: I would say .fbx is what I call a requirement.
    It's something I highly recommend.
but when it comes to CAD only.. I can't speak for that.

After the sucsess with installing the add-in to export .dae files I went looking for an add-in for .fbx files and found this link for an add-in for 3ds files.

    It looks promising.

I'm going to bed now...what a light weight... but I'll have a go at exporting .3ds and .fbx files tommorrow. It's looking like the artistic and engineering worlds can play after all

Nice work there we can put our files together in a native SolidWorks folder.

It would be good to see how each other build their models. I'm a bit sloppy at times and my feature list gets pretty messy. I've got a lot to learn still. Thanks for for the preview pics.

    hehe night kitatit.
Actually I can make models that are on scale and are for making and manufacturing.
    Thing is that nobody asked.
But sure, make a factory drawing and with scales and I could do this.
I can often even make 3D models with just 1 reference image.
    Humanoid or characters involves 2
and in 1 of the same positions, also this kind of modeling with human models modeling takes me quite some time and needs much practice so I can't do that latter for free by no chance.

But hey I'm in need for assignments, give me a PM if you need a model for me to make.
Also indicate if it needs to be on scale.
But I should be able to make some models for free atm

I have just discovered that Rhinoceros 3D http://www.rhino3d.com/ bridges the world of CAD and 3D graphics very nicely and seems to import and export all the common formats.

I have needed to convert some .stp files to .lwo for a project I'm working on and this program made it easy.

I'm also working with some of the models you very kindly provided Kit, and this is helping me out a treat
