I am machining a custom heat sink for standard 5.6mm diode; does anyone know the correct diameter hole required to achieve a correct press fit? The heat sink material is copper.

That is what I used also. The diode base is pretty soft so it squishes in nicely.
But be careful because copper is also really soft. Mine were made out of brass.
