Regarding vendors, there is only one company (Pangolin) that is currently confirmed as being able to attend SELEM. However, there are several other companies that have been invited (including X-laser and Digisynth), but they are not confirmed yet.

I have also invited several special guests, including Greg Makhov from LSDI, Mike Dunn from FirstLight Laser, and Case Stack from Laser Complaince Inc. As yet, none of these special guests have been able to commit to attending SELEM. However, if any of these special guests do attend, there will likely be extra presentations upstairs in the classroom area.

Also, I have had one request from a PL member for some time in the upstairs classroom to demo some new software.

As I get more details about who is attending (and who will be speaking/presenting in the upstairs area), I will post them here.

Remember too that very little "vending" takes place, at least from the corporate guests. Mostly it's just a chance for a company to talk about their products and answer questions. SELEM isn't set up like a trade show; it's more informal. What little buying and selling does take place is normally done in the backstage area, at the buy-sell-trade tables. (Though admittedly, some companies do bring a few samples of their products to sell as well.)

Randy: Really sorry to hear you can't make it this year dude... That totally sucks! But I understand your situation.

Newlin: Looking forward to seeing you again this year. (Missed you the other weekend in Denton; you missed a good one!)

And finally, just a note for everyone who has expressed an interest in attending. I've only received one paid registration for SELEM so far, and that was from Bradfo69. I know it's still 3 months away, but don't wait until the last minute! Remember that we have to finalize the shirt order a few weeks before the event, and if you sign up after that point there is no guarantee that you'll get a shirt...

    @planters^^^

Although he is not a 'vendor' we are hoping to have as a special guest Dr Sam Goldwasser. We have not approached him to be a speaker per se, but he may agree to a Q&A and be there for many one-on-one convos. I have always wondered what his first laser was. Any who have never used SAM'S LASER FAQ will sooner or later.

Please post some kind words here- Sam has the link and more posts may make the difference.

    Question

I got a question... as I may not be able to make it for this one due to financial issues. It may be a bit more important to try and keep my house.

I assume more people are making shows for the "Best Laser Show" award. Do we have to be present to win?

I already got two shows down... 1.75 shows as I might change a few frames on this last one I finished today (graphics AND beams). Who else got shows to enter this year? Competition was a bit light last year and I want to make sure there are some people out there playing with songs and timelines as I am getting my head wrapped around a another song right now for a third show (think 80s action movie). This isn't me talking shit, it is me trying to get others motivated. Although with my financial situation I need to make a few shows that can actually make me a few dollars... That's a different thread though. So who got shows?

I'm in a similar time / finances boat this year - no SELEM 2011 for me!!

I started work on a multi-projector version of my TSO show, along with another live-performance piece I've been tinkering with.
They'll probably stay "under wraps" until I get the chance to run them myself at another KnoxLEM or SELEM -
I don't want to "cut them loose" unless I'm there to personally supervise the unveiling!

Hmm since this is my first time I will be attending to SELEM.
can someone clarify "the best lasershow" contest?
    are there prizes?
for how many projectors should the show be?
Is this for graphics, beams or both?

It's an informal contest. Last year, Laserman 532 made some custom medals that we gave out as prizes for various categories (things like best laser show, most powerful projector, longest distance traveled to attend SELEM, etc). I imagine we will do something similar to that again this year.

Anyone is welcome to bring their home-made laser shows and display them for the group. (I'll probably have at least one new show ready for SELEM this year.)

Unless someone from Australia or New Zealand decides to attend, I think you'll be the winner of the "longest distance traveled" award!
