Which airport? If your talking NYC, about 630 miles south. If you are flying from NYC to Charlotte, NC? If so, It's about 45min to an hour away from the LEM. I'm sure someone could pick you up if needed.

Just a little more news: It's been confirmed that Mike Dunn from FirstLight Laser will be in attendance at SELEM this year! Mike isn't sure yet if he can stay for all 3 days, but he will be there for at least part of the event.

Also, thanks in no small part to the efforts of Len (Hakzaw1), it looks very promising that Dr. Sam Goldwasser (of Sam's Laser FAQ fame) will also be in attendance at SELEM! (How cool is that?)

And finally, don't forget about the Laser Safety Officer class that will be taught by Greg Makhov on Monday, August 22nd, immediately after SELEM. It's just $445 per person! (If you take this class at Ratheon or Coherent, you'll pay $2200 - $2500 for it.)

With all this, I can't believe that we still don't have very many people signed up for SELEM. It's only 6 weeks away! (We have 14 registered members as of this morning) We need to double that number just to cover our expenses. (And as always, excess funds are donated to PL to cover hosting and bandwidth fees.)

Come on guys! This is the 5th annual SELEM, and we've got more going on this year than ever before!

MasterpJ: If you fly into the Charlotte International Airport, it will be very easy to arrange a ride for you. Post your travel plans here in the forum (including the time your flight arrives, and the exact airport you'll be landing at) and I'm sure we can get you a ride.

Blowfly: Damn Mike, I was really hoping to see you again this year. Sucks that you can't make it. If you still want to share your show, send it to me on a disc and I'll make sure it gets played.

(evil)Adam: You'd better be there mister! You and Platinum both! Wouldn't be SELEM without you guys!

    Default About Sam

^^^thanks to all who wrote the kind words on both forums about Sam and getting to meet him.

Adam talked with Sam at length and that was a deciding moment IMO.

We are still working out the fine details about his ride to SELEM V- there may be a need for someone to allow Sam to 'rest' in thier room until I get there on Thursday and pay for the suite. More about this later. But if anyone has a spare bed at the HIE for Wed. nite only please contact me.

ATM it looks like Sam will be heading back to Phily on Sunday early. dont forget to have your photo taken with the GURU of lasers!!

I plan to video an interview with Sam so if anyone(not attending) has a question you would like me to ask just let me know--the interview will be available later to all.

Sometime at SELEM Sam will do a Q&A session which will be also videoed.

Check out Sam's Classified Ads at Sams and if you see a (SMALL) item you want you buy or trade for contact Sam via the email provided at the site. He has a few yellow HeNes FS--Space for those items will be very limited.

Adam please add Sam(Large shirt) and me to your list.

    buffo,
I hope to go to SELEM this year, but I can't rationalize it unless I finish my projector in time. When is the registration/payment deadline?

I'm sure I could ask when I call but, have you (Adam) set up a group rate for Holiday Inn like last year? I started to make reservations yesterday and didn't know if we had a group code.

    Hak,

I'm starting to work out how i'm going to make this happen... I'll be driving *or* flying Cessna from CO, depending on if Qumefox is coming along with me...

Not too worried about the T-Shirt, want to go for the experience, so I may pay at the door. I'd say I'm at about 70% chance of going, now, where that was 50/50 last week. I prefer to play these things by ear somewhat.

Still not guaranteed but I'm trying to get more serious about it now.

As far as the "due date" for SELEM registration is concerned, the simple answer is that there really isn't a deadline. You can pay at the door if you need to. But understand that this causes problems! For one thing, you won't get a polo shirt. (They have to be embroidered ahead of time.) Also, with everything else going on, the last thing I want to be worried about is collecting money. But if you need to pay at the door, you can.

Otherwise, I usually close the shirt order about 2 weeks prior to the event.

I have to say that we're getting very close now, and I really expected there to be more people registered. Come on guys! Sign up already... We've got a 3 day event planned, with more shows scheduled than ever before. Let's make this one a big one!

Several people have asked about special booking rates at the Holiday Inn Express. Unfortunately, I was not able to secure much of a discount this year. However, we do have a block of 25 rooms reserved for us. Just tell them you are with the SELEM laser event, and you'll get one of the rooms they have set aside for us. EDIT: I stand corrected! We do indeed have a group rate of $79 for a standard room.

Regarding the Laser Safety Officer class that Greg Makhov will be teaching on the Monday following SELEM: If you are taking this class, you will need to pay for it on the ILDA website. I don't have the link yet; Patrick Murphy is setting up a special page just for us. As soon as he gets it up, I'll post it here. You will need to pay in advance to attend the LSO class ($445 per person).
