with the diode at either I or -, no matter how i rotate/turn the cube the beam only goes straight through. i cannot get it to go at90 degrees

The cubes work fine (see pics). I get strait thru with my beam horizontal and a 90° right out, with the head rotated 90° on beam axis. If you turn the PBS upside down the beam will exit to the left.

    Cheers!

is that a single diode build? is the diode in straight either I or -?

It’s a single with the fast axis vertical giving a slight - horizontal beam at far field.

Defocus the collimator and rotate your diode to give a absolutely vertical line/ellipse at far field and fasten the diode and re focus the collimator. Try the PBS again.

    Cheers!

I have same problem with PBS cube, so i ended up with very small angle betwen incoming lasers
    Ill get pics next weekend.

This angle was optimal for my PBS, any other angle just made stray beams stronger.

Maybe it depends on what wavelength the PBS was designed for. Old thread, I know, but sure is fascinating.

Anymore updates to this? I just ran into this same problem here and at first thought it just to be the waveplate screwy but turns out it is how the pbs acts. Any more info or ideas?

    No info just ideas !

Correlate original source of rogue PBs and their easily detectable characteristics.
Try different wavelengths (if necessary by exchanging PBs with other PL members.
Ask Andy how problem was suddenly "sorted now anyway." (I suspect new cube!)
Put cube on a peltier and see if temp change varies reflection capability results.

Naturally post all RESULTS! ( R U reading this Andy? )

    Cheers
