Just a quick introduction to all members.
I've used this forum for quite some time as I've found opinions quite balanced and a really good source of knowlege (knowlege is power! ha ha)
My laserist experience spans many years and in the uk, I installed one of the first rgb projectors in the uk (Spectraphysics/Coherent 5w argon) and the passion kept on growing from there!
I learnt the hard way about re-alignment (never give a monkey a machinegun!)
I'm not a bad operator experience with Pangolin,Millennium and Zion.
Beda award winning LD so if anyone needs help with desks or software just let me know
Some of the home builds on this site do amaze me as 15 years ago Lasers were definately "black magic" and if a lot of guys on this forum were around then you would have earned a fortune! £500 for pressing reset and reducing the o/put or for switching a cooler on! Anyway I'll contribute as much as I can to the forum and definatley have some funny stories about lasers in nightclubs and working with bands over the years that hopefully shall amuse and the toe is definatley been dipped in the home build as I've found some old Cambridge scanners.
    Regards

    Hi G

    Welcome to PL.
You may want to include some location details to your profile like what county in the UK you live in.

The advancement in laser technology has taken some big steps in the last ten years that has opened up the "black magic" of laser show to the hobbyist.

I love reading stories of how laserist went about there work back in the days of big power sucking, water drinking gas lasers of the 80's and 90's, so I will be keeping an eye out for them.

There is also going to be a UK Laser Enthusiast Meet dedicated to shows in Wakefield in July. You will find details in the meet and greet section of this forum. I think someone of your past experience would be most welcome to the meet.

Hi 'G', and welcome to Photonlexicon

Another UK laserist is always good. As Carl has already pointed out we're organising our next meet just off J40 of the M1 in early July. This is a meet that will be dedicated to playing pre-made shows, both home made and professional ones. We'll have some trussing with around 5 synchronised RGB's, there'll be a selection of DAC's although I feel that Pangolin QM2000.nets and FB3's will probably dominate.

We have other more general meets twice per year in Surfleet (Lincs), these usually take place in Spring and Autumn. There are usually some of the old power hungry and thirsty 'gassers' at the Surfleet meets as well as large YAGs and RGB DPSS rigs.

Whereabouts in the UK are you, as Carl suggests it's a good idea to fill in your approximate location.

    Cheers

You will be glad to know that if you start building a projector of your own that you don't live that far from Rob Stanwax. Possibly the main man that you will go to for most if not all of your components, optics and projector cases. Rob is based in Runcorn. You may want to have a look at his Web site at www.stanwaxlaser.co.uk.

Bah, another one from the wrong side of the Pennines

As Carl has suggested, make contact with Rob, it'll probably be the best move you ever make in relation to your laser addiction

    Cheers
