what if you just provided a socket connection so third party widgets could blast font styles and messages to a port? you wouldn't have to worry about supporting third party hardware/software. you could also make some fun cgi's to tickle LSX that way.

I think it would be useful a RSS feeds reader instead of SMS.
Because a laser projector could be used for digital signage applications.
