[QUOTE=DieBoard;193821]Maybe a stupid question but what will perform better with this software a soundcard dac or riya multibus lite controller.

After reading here and there it seems to me that this software will give allot for a few bucks. You can make original shows/effects which cost allot of effort/knowledge but if all people (can) do the same show with a few clicks then where is the fun of it.

    END QUOTE

Yes, the "string of beads" technique used in the "A few clicks" software, which I assume you are referring to Panglin's "Quickshow" is rapid, and it has its merits. It also has limitations. Its really set up for Dance Party/Raves or simple synced shows.

LSX is far more capable when you really need to program a serious timed, multitrack show. That will arrive sooner then you think if you are serious about lasers.

Because the sound card dac data stream can be redirected with a virtual device, there are limitations on what included show content you can access with one on LSX. This is reasonable considering how time consuming and expensive it is to create content. Pangolin has a similar policy with their included content.

If you have the sound card dac with LSX, you can use all the creative tools, but you will have restricted access to the included shows. You can still create anything you like, there are no restrictions on the creativity suite. You also can still trade shows you and others have created. You can still save your work to ILDA format etc. This is to prevent simple piracy as there is a difference between distribution rights and outright ownership of the included content.

Honestly, having had a role in the development of the sound card dac, they can be less then reliable, often unstable, and you would be better off with even the tiny RIYA or another supported device. SCDs have had their purpose, but as costs are coming down on more professional or open source hardware, its time for them to fade to black.

I'm sure Dr Lava will be along to clarify my answer to this question.

What are the requirements to run the software smooth on a PC? For mobility i want to use it on a 1,5gGHz laptop or is that to slow?

If you want to design shows on your pc and check the result on your laptop what are the options?

    - LDS dongle and swap dongle between systems
    - RIYA serial and swap DAC between systems
Hi, the RIYA will give you better performance and fewer headaches too, with default sound card positioning.
Also, most of the newer sound card DACs have a channel timing skew that can be problematic.

I agree, it IS a lot of software for a few bucks It will run on your 1.5gHz laptop fine for one and most two DAC shows, but you might have to close the preview window while playing multi-DAC shows if your laptop doesn't have accelerated opengl and it loadsdown the CPU too much. My single core 2GHz mobile pentium IBM t43p can run 3 and 4-DAC shows with the preview open, for reference.

yes, the options that you list are correct. Also, you can get a dongle from me at cost, $30, if you don't have an LDS one.

Yes, they were supposed to send a dev board out to me months ago but it hasn't materialized yet. If you have some you want to send maybe we can make a deal.

I guess what should be clarified is that having a sound card DAC does not restrict your access to shows in any way, the only stipulation is that protected content cannot be played on the sound card DAC. If you have a sound card DAC AND a RIYA, you could use them at the same time to play unprotected dual-head shows, and you could use the RIYA to play the protected ones.

    EDIT: post 2000! woohoo.

Got my Riya and software yesterday. I am going to need some time to figure it out. I cannot get the pre-loaded shows to play or LSX realtime. I go to C:LSX:show: then double click to open one. After that I get this window and I cannot write in it. All I can do is press OK and then it goes away and nothing comes up.
Any clues? Same exact thing appears trying to open up realtime

Hi, great. Press the copy code to clipboard button and email me the code, along with your RIYA ID # (found in riya setup app) and I'll send you the activation and further instructions. Please PM me with questions, or feel free to use lasershowforums.com

    Default Demo Update

Hi everyone, I've been busy making updates to make LSX comfortable in windows Vista and 7. Also a more features have been added to refine the use of the software, as well as bug fixes and better support for NetLase and Mamba DACs. You can use your download link to get the latest version and give it a run! Feedback welcome, feel free to PM me also.

For paid users, your update is much larger so will be transferred to the server via sneakernet. Look for an update tomorrow.

Looks great, Andrew - anxious to check this out!
(I imagine you'll be QUITE busy at SELEM this year!!)

Do have a "ballpark" idea when a QM2000 version might be ready for release?

Also, I wouldn't mind checking out a demo if they're still available!

    Thanks!

I'm seriously considering buying this laser show software, but I'm concerned about the licensing and how it would fit into my workflow with multiple computers using the software exclusively. For example, I would want to use my desktop computer for show composition and frame editing; however, I would more than likely use my laptop for actual show operations. This would probably mean that I'd need a dongle of some sort to enable operation on both machines in a non-simultaneous manner.

Are these dongles Windows 7 compatible? Many custom USB devices don't interface properly on Windows 7 because they rely on unsigned drivers. Will you be using a professional dongle solution like HASP or Safe-Net?

    Please let me know, thanks.

Hi Randy, I'll send you a demo via PM. I look forward to demoing it at SELEM! QM2k support should be here soon. Also, I haven't overlooked your driver order, I will charge and ship it and make a post when more P3's are available. 'Till then, you won't be charged.

    Good questions!
You can use a dongle, the dongles I'm getting are professional driverless HID interface devices, so it shouldn't be a problem on nannying operating systems.
