    Default High power leds

I have a couple of scanners like this one (same scanners, but another oem brand):

I would like to replace the puny 20w led with something with a little more power.

The original led is one of these:

I have been looking around on fleabay, without much luck. There is plenty of 50W leds, but I am afraid the emitting area is too large on those to work with the original optics.

Does anyone know of a white led (2500+ lm) with an emitting area around 10x10mm?

Wow... Yes that should pack quite a punch... A little overkill though

Nice little things - but pretty pricey...

Did a search on Mouser and found these:

Those might just be the thing for this

    Wowee! Individually addressable dice too!

SST-50 and SST-90 are available from China sites, in the lower, cheaper bins. Also at Mouser. Still a bit pricy, though, and it is domed, unlike the original LED.

The flat-windowed version is twice as expensive CBT-90, linked above.

Either way, let us know how it goes ^_^

Didn't think about the dome... That may cause problems... Guess it's time to experiment...

I'll order a couple of cheap 3-5W LEDs with and without a dome to play with when I get the time... Will post results when I'm done

I would be interested in this as well... I have some moving heads with lower power LEDs and would like to replace them with something more powerful. Please keep us updated.

Will do - LEDs are on the way from china - may take a couple of weeks before they arrive though.

What kind of heads do you have?
