Ok, What would you rather have in your forum?

    Situation one:
A 17 year old girl is hired to do mass marketing. She had a "A" grade in a English class, that is her qualification. She is bumping into every thread. She has NO idea what you are talking about. Every once in a while she makes a sale purely by random noise. She will soon be replaced in her job by another. Is it fair to her? Is it fair to US? A big business in China is to hire a room full of people and just have them surf the net and spam sales. Odds are she has never even seen the projector in question.

    Situation Two:
We have a marketing section added to the forum for commercial products. Vendors post there. Vendors who post elsewhere, unless their post is helpful, soon find themselves banned*

*Active members such as Dr Lava, CT lasers, Lasersbee, John Yayas find themselves grandfathered because they help others. Flat out, have you ever seen any of the above do more in a post then say "Call Me" or " Email Me" when it comes to the sales portion of their business?. Yes, all of them do some subtle advertising. However the active transaction is elsewhere. That is because they are ethical, even the one of them who says he has no ethics, pretty much acts in a ethical manner! Why? Because its good for business. There needs to be a balance.

    Thumbs up

    I'm with site two...

My main problem withthe recent rash of eastern sellers is that they only joined here to sell their wares; they are not positively participating as some of our eastern Friends like Frank, Bridge, and Jian. Even David from Lasever was good enough to join in the converstaions and contribute to the community with more than "buy my stuff, it good and cheap".

Maybe we could have a Chinese Projector for Sale Section, the only place where Chinese Projectors can be advertised by companies (non company members can also use the normal for sale).

That way all the posts would be concentrated in 1 section and you could take them or leave them.

Would require someone to lock any started elsewhere though.

EDIT Just noticed I cross posted with Steve (through not reading the whole thread!), almost the same idea! Great minds Steve...

As we are all doing stuffs by ourselves, we should only allow sellers which advertise for OEM parts (lasers, scanners, etc). Preferably with a special discount for PL members Short.

    A no for me
unless it's proven that their stuff is really good.
and also some knowledge and not vague and plain answers to questions about their products.

David from Lasever is an asset to PL- it would be a shame to cause David any issues posting here. I find him very helpful and willing to send some of the items they offer for test/review for only the cost of shipping. He responds to my emails very quicky and professionally.

    WHAT !!!

    Chinese Sellers on the Forum.....
    Where....?????

Unless a Seller has a positive reputation and has proven
to me that he is trustworthy I wouldn't be buying anything
from them even if they were not from China...

The reason I am concered about Eastern manufactured laser projectors is that they don't have a good track record of being engineered to adequate safety standards. If they have, then a certification e.g. US Variance or IEC conformance would demonstrate this.

Most of us may disregard shitty unsafe projectors being posted for sale, but without challenging the seller to demonstrate their safety credentials, are we being responsible? Other less experienced and possibly new members not having read about the dangers of these projectors could find a projector posted here and buy it without researching, assuming that all posts in the thread endorse the projector by default.

In principle I believe everyone has a right to post here and express their view regardless of whether I agree with it or not. The exchange of views only stands to benefit others who are looking to be better informed.

To this end, unless a commercial seller is willing to demonstrate their awareness of safe projector engineering, I will challenge them for evidence.

TBH, lets not get hung up on the Chinese thing, this applies to any company coming here to hawk their wares. I guess we just don't see the same thing from companies in other countries, or if we do, the same issues do not exist (to the same extent) with the product.

And again, lets be clear that I have no problem with active participation in the forum from people who happen to also sell laser products, even on a grand scale, we can all learn from them.

Go to ProSoundWeb and look at the interaction from technical designers from companies like QSC (amp/speaker manufacturer) to see how it can significantly improve customer relations, loyalty and brand identity. I think the Eastern model I don't think, has yet discovered or embraced this way of working.

You are using Bonetti's defense against me, ah?

I thought it fitting, considering the rocky terrain.
