    Default Maxyz voltage/current question

Just purchased a Maxyz module from a member and am waiting for his reply but, as I don't really know much about them other that some of the historical background, what is the proper voltage/current to apply? It's a 658nm 150mw. The wires are black and white so, I assume black is positive and white negative?

    Thanks in adavance!

I had a dual. It took 9VDC. I used a spare walwart...no switcher. It would probobally be better to use a switcher PS. Be VERY careful concerning back reflections on these units. I sold my units to Mike Gould and he had a diode die due back reflection. Keep the modulation at minimum when ANY optical alignment is being done !!!
Yes, Black is - and White is + . The beam is very tight and after upgrading to 640nm....sometimes I think the 658nm line, at that deeper red color produced some nicer colors...or...it is likely all in my head !!

Hmm, well, you should have 3 wires total, or 2 wires and the wire mesh that surrounds the 2 wires. If you have the wire mesh, that's dc common or ground. In this case the other two are +V and modulation, can't remember which one is which though.

    Here was my reply...

9VDC. The current is around 200mA but can't remember for sure. The longer white wire is the positive and black is negative. I think the modulation wire is behind the blue heatshrink. Someone on the board should know how to fix the modulation. I think it's just a shunt FET. Most people remove the OEM driver and replace it with a flexmod. Hope this helps.

So... it sounds like 9VDC is a concensus and white is positive/black negative. (Glad I asked that one!) I'll look for either the modulation wire or mesh and confirm.
Shunt FET? Need a laser dictionary here.

I must correct my previous post concerning the Maxyz module wire hook-up.
    I looked up my documentation;

There are three (3) leads- Braded shield, Green wire and White wire.
The Braded shield is the common ground for the power and modulation input. So...

    Modulation

Braded shield for the Neg 5 VDC ( 0~5)
Green wire for the Pos 5 VDC ( 0~5 )

    Power

Braded shield for the Neg 9 VDC
White wire for the Pos 9 VDC

Again...be very careful to avoid back reflection on these units.
