I re-wired part of it today. Being somewhat of a purist, I add my changes using a terminal block that has been attached to the inside of the control panel using double-sided velcro tape. This way I don't have to drill any holes in the vintage panel and I can easily see where I am making changes. Most of the changes I am making are to fix previous (sloppy) field repairs made over the past three decades. These are magnificent machines.

A picture of the facility where I removed a massive star machine and the AVI Omniscan system two years ago. The pit is now covered with a steel plate where the instruments once stood.

Like so many domes, this planetarium has now fully converted to digital technology. Gone are the odd contraption in the middle as well as the laser show equipment. The show goes on, over at my house instead.

suppose you're thinkin' about a plate o' shrimp. Suddenly someone'll say, like, plate, or shrimp, or plate o' shrimp out of the blue, no explanation. No point in lookin' for one, either. It's all part of a cosmic unconciousness.

I read through this whole thread thinking "Damn, this dude is crazy." Then I came upon this and thought "...oooohhh."

Also, I find it slightly unsettling that you have poisonous, stinging lobsters running around your house.

I was offered a cushy job at Zappos a few years back as a Senior Release Engineer, with relocation assistance and everything. And while researching the Las Vegas area, I came across an article on the "Black Widow Problem" that Las Vegas was experiencing. At the time, Zappos was the Forbes #9 best company to work for in the U.S. After a 9-month long interview process, I'm not going to lie, at least 50% of my decision to politely decline their offer was based on my arachnophobia. Here, we have harmless wolf spiders that are terrified of humans. There, you guys have 8-legged death machines that hunt you. No thanks! haha

black widows are actually pretty timid. as long as they're outside, i have no issues with them.

i have a catch and release policy for most insects in my house, but there are exceptions.

Poisonous stinging lobsters, haha thats funny. I have not run the water-cooled's lately because that is how the buggers get in, where the drain hose leaves the doorway. I find scorpions in the house for weeks after they get in, longer if they multiply. It is dark in the room when they get in so I don't know I have alot of new poison lobster friends until every few days when I see another one.

I am wondering, how to reuse the spent laser coolant water to irrigate the yard rather than run it down the drain which is a tremendous waste of precious desert commodity. Is the only solution to drill a hole in the side of the house, and punch a water line through, to keep the scorpions from getting in? Hmm, ponder.

Terminal blocks are being added to the Saint STP projector from the back of the control panel and at the base of the projector. This will make it alot easier to re-wire the rest of the projector. I had been trying to wire it up using only AMP/Tyco M-series connectors and pins and anyone that knows what I am talking about can probably relate this can be a very tedious challenge. Hindsight being 20-20, I will get it working off the terminal blocks first before using any fancy connectors. (precisely what my friend Ron told me to do a few years ago and I dismiss it, until now).

This machine has 80 slip rings so there are 80 terminals through which to pass electrical current, although the machine is only using about half of these connections. The purpose of the slip rings is to permit rotational (3-axis) movement of electrical devices.

The last image is from a poster that was produced in 1979 to advertise the venue where this star projector came from. I remember seeing this image sometime in the 1980's thinking it was special in some way, without a clue until many years later when I find the projector and link the two together.
