Heh, tip from a fellow Road Warrior / nasty bacteria-set victim: Eat a *ton of hi-quality / high in lactobactillus Yogurt, like, a pint every-day, for a week before your travels. (..and if you don't 'like yogurt', well... then ask yourself - 'which is worse', a creamy-dish with some peaches, or the devil camping out in your * for a week with his napalm-playset? ) On-arrival, avoid ice, only sealed-bottle bev's / certified-pure bottled-water, etc, etc.. Then... pray...

..The rationale behind the 'Yogurt regimen', is that the build-up of 'good bacteria' / flora in your gut, leaves little place for the nasty, evil stuff to 'take foothold'... seems to have always worked well, for me...

If you're not the 'praying type', then a) do the 'Yogurt pre-prep', and b) get yourself 2x 6-packs of 'Cipro' (ciprofloxacin) - stuff kills *anthrax*, and will usually kill anything that beats-out the lactobacs from doing their job.. Also, the 'pre-coat' of lactobacs from the Yog, helps your body from reacting with the 'drill seargant runs' (..OKAY YOU *HOLES, EVERYBODY UP AND OUT ON THE DOUBLE!!! because the Cipro is like a small nuke, bacteria-speaking... Can also be used to 'shorten' the duration of the devil-shts, should the Yog-regimen fail you / you don't wanna take it 'preventatively'...

Then... Eat 4-5 bananas when you return.. Sad-intestines love potassium. ..But not too-many.. Point being: 'Cipro' is also a 'OSK-must have', for us international-warriors..

I do take Saccharomyces Cerevisiae (pro-biotics) in capsule form, but only while traveling. I should take them a week before as you say...

Besides avoiding ice, also avoid cut fruit and veg. Only eat fruit if you peel it yourself. Lettuce it to be avoided at all costs, as it's usually not washed in bottled drinking water... Brush your teeth using bottle water also. In restaurants insist on them unsealing the bottled water in front of you (many like to fill these bottles from the tap!!!).

Despite all precautions, the watery-red-eyed-screaming-fesses-turd-burglar general lurks in my sump after most trips or worst annihilates hotel rooms with it's spray-of-death... Not a good way to loose 10kg!

    Thanks for tip re bananas.

Ya, indeed, even Cipro can't help you if it's a devil-virus, or a toxin (shellfish, undercooked-beans, etc..) Best line of defense against 'foreign bacteria-sets' (..which don't even have to be 'bad', per se - it's sometimes your body just going 'WOAH, nelly..' when it encounters the 'foreigners'...) is the leather-sofa in your living-room in front of the tele... ...but wheres' the fun in that?

    cheers and TP.

Used to do a shot of Pepto-Bismol every morning when working in Mexico some years ago. I worked for me - I never got stung again... (but I also didn't eat any fresh fruit or veg, ice, street vendor food or drinks, etc.)

Trying to get them to understand is NOT easy if you tell them about hazers and PJs.
This is true. I've had more problems with fire alarms than anything else. To the point that these days, if I can't get someone at the venue to call the fire alarm monitoring company, I will open the fire alarm panel and disconnect the phone line! Can't phone in the alarm if the line is disconnected...

But yeah, one way or another, you need to either defeat the detectors (shower cap, wet towel, masking tape, etc), or disable the detectors from the alarm panel, or call the alarm company and tell them NOT to call the fire dept when the alarm sounds, or worst case, yank the phone line...

Also remember that any time the fire alarm triggers, it usually trips the air handlers off. So if it's getting warm and the alarm just went off, you probably need to reset the HVAC system!

Hell to the yeah! Having a few of these little buggers in your toolbox will save your ass if you ever do a gig in a venue with lousy power. (Which is just about every nightclub, ever...)

Also, I can't believe no one mentioned ear plugs yet! Gotta have those in your kit. And some Asprin or Tylenol for the headache that will surely follow...

Plus, I usually carry my BD-10A oudin coil with me. It's handy for starting old, tired ion lasers that need a little "boost" to light...

Finally, bring lots of spare cables. ILDA, Audio, Power, Video, Network, you name it! Bring them all. Oh, and a nice fan to keep you cool while you fix whatever it is that just broke...

Basically, I bring as much with me as I can reasonably fit in my vehicle. Never know when you might need something odd, and it's always better to have it handy.

Are your laser shows that boring? :runs:

Seriously, I get a real buzz from operating live shows. No issue staying awake. In fact, after returning home early in the morning I often can't sleep, still buzzing from the excitement.

    Back up projector.
    Back up control system.
    Back up cables.

When things go wrong on a show, there is rarely enough time to do any repairs!
