Default Closed loop servo driver modification question

Is it possible to use a servo driver card from a differently kpp rated galvanometer scanner set and use it to drive a different manufacturers scan head? Does anyone have experience doing this or know of anyone that does? Perhaps even posted some info about it?

    Yes and No...

Yes, I do it all the time on non-Asian Galvos.

On the Asian boards they often change component values, or use strange notch filters etc. So some times I have to change a cap or a resistor. This makes adapting a Asian amp an adventure in reverse engineering.

Most Asian Galvos are clones of the classic Cambridge 6800 and the 6850 amp.

Do you gain PPS by using a 40K driver with a 20K rated scanner, not likely.

Take a scanner tuning class at a LEM before you try this.

The problem is the scale factor for a given position sensor can be quite different from manufacturer to manufacturer. As is the coil resistance. This can require some work to recalibrate.

They change the pin-outs as well.

So until you blow up a pair trying, plus learn to tune scanners using a oscilloscope, NO, don't try it.
