If I can find someone with a good testing setup for these that can do a continuous run with proper cooling and the willingness to document the process I would be willing to donate one to see how many hours it will last @ 700mA.

Flecom...your idea...see my drawing. Might work ??? Slightly overdriven on the diodes...BUT...the new 500mW version is due out soon....so...IF those diodes have the same emitter size and other optical properties as the ML520G71....then...1500mW....and while I am being widly optimistic !!! go with twin sets...one going thru a wave plate...and combine all in a PBS....for 3W out the door at the 635 line...Yikes x 6 !!! Yes...I know....the cart is ahead of the horse...by a mile !!! Time will tell !!!

Nice! Good choice How many will you be combining? I'm still planning a 12 diode build with these once I can find the funding...

If someone can can put a TEC/ heatsink on it, I work in a lab and can supply 1 CC PS. Should be able to set it up running 24/7 until it dies. Documentation would be a couple of times per day. Nothing at night. No power meter tho. The one I have at home is a home-brew and not probably as accurate as is needed if periodic power measurements are needed (which I suspect will be ) .

    PS- Happy B'day Dave!

Yea I forgot to add that. I would be looking to have power readings as well to document any degradation. Happy B'day Dave.

Would it not be better to start first by reducing the beam size of each diode without thinking too much about final divergence, combine a few of them, then align and telescope them all after?

I think I read that they are the same emitter size.. wow 0.5W per diode. When are they due out? Anyone know? Prices?
