Sounds like a good idea.. Any overclockers got links to these pc chillers?
ps- heavy yellow was an awesome vid, Planters <thumbs-up>![]()

there are lots of makes and models
As far as i can remember, the black ice line of radiators was top notch stuff back at the day ( http://www.dangerden.com/store/two_p...yle-radiators/ ) or to be honest, any old car radiator would do
The swiftech pumps were the top dog, now i see that there are cheaper copies around ( http://www.dangerden.com/store/dd12v...-by-laing.html ) People also used to trust eheim pumps, too.
Waterblocks can be sourced easily, from older models of CPUs, or even custom made
There was also a watercooled baseplate by thorlabs ( http://www.thorlabs.de/NewGroupPage9...tGroup_ID=4918 )
I am not quite sure we have to go that far, though. Maybe just the use of heatpipes, like in laptop coolers, could make our designs simpler
"its called character briggs..."
I have been very impressed with the heat exchange provided by a clamped Al pipe chosen to fit the ID of the available tubing. I do not even use thermal grease. If the machining is available then a half round groove milled into the base plate is nice and increases the contact area, but a strong clamp will distort the Al along the contact line and the transfer is still very good. This kind of "water block" is almost free and simply can't leak.
Oh shit, I knew keeping my 3x120mm radiator was a good idea.![]()
Love, peace, and grease,

I think you're going to get good results if you have a 'sandwich' of a salvaged CPU water block at the bottom (You should be able to get any Socket A or S370 block for next to nothing), a TEC in the middle and the diode mounting block at the top.
It's going to get a bit trickier if you have a water block that has the hose connections on the top (instead of on the side), that would mean drilling a few holes in your optical deck.
Turning the whole lot sideways and having the cooling assembly on the side or even the top (instead of on the bottom) is also an option.
Another approach that will be attractive to anyone who has opened a computer case for the first time in a couple of years, is to use a double radiator. One radiator outside of the SEALED case and one inside with a fan mounted to each. This would be useful where the heat exchange is distributed through the projector and not all funneled to a single base plate.
It has been a little while since I commented on this thread, but based on a comment made by CDBEAM on another thread about improving the output of these diodes with TEC cooling, I decided to wring this assumption out. I'll post a video with the test set up, but in the meantime the results are VERY impressive. At a nominal 600mA input and a operating temperature of 21C the output through an uncoated microscope slide (window) is 415mW (460mW without the window). When heated to 31C the output drops to 365mW and when cooled to -12C the power rises to 502mW. I have gone up and down repeatedly and the effect is completely reversible. I chose to limit this to -12C because this is easily achievable with just a TEC,but the effect continues to at least the limit of my test at -22C.
So, build a sealed diode chamber with an ar window, throw a dessicant bag in there, chill to -22C and overdrive the shitz out of 'em, replace with P73 diodes and WAMB A WHOLE LOT OF ROSIE -- YEE HAW ..![]()
Yes! I am building a satellite projector and the mounted diode I tested was temporarily "lifted" from there. The sealed chamber is going to be a simple square 100mm wide by 50mm high PVC block that caps the diode supporting plate and rests on the projector floor ( I've done it before and its easy). No desiccant bag needed as the cold plate is always colder than the diode, so it acts as a getter. No temp control, just select the TEC to match the available voltage. You'll need between 50W and 100W to get between -5C and -15C. That's it.
And as you replace with P73s, I would be very surprised that this won't leverage these too. Just wait till you see how high I got the G71 in this test!
TRIPLE YIKES !!!!! GOOD WORK PL !! ICE IS NICE !!! ( MMMM...Where have I heard that B4...HAHAHA )...Whoa...do I smell 3~4W outa a P73 QUAD on Ice !!! ??? In my opinion, this is a significant find !!!
Terrawatt Labs has hired "Professor Halfawave"...who hates popcorn....and he will be contacting you... Mr.PL !!!...and now...alittle cornball BEAM humor...
The LD P73,
Be all you can be,
To the icebox with thee.
Like lasing a stick of Dynamite you see,
Thats the key !!
