Eureka... I think. The fiber pump arrived from Steve R. and what a difference. The multimode problem seems to be SIGNIFICANTLY less right out of the box. To really test this the pump beam diameter needs to be adjusted from slightly larger to slightly smaller than the mode diameter and I have yet to do this , but wow the single mode beam is even better. It's 2mm out of the output lens and 2mm @ 10M. I will know by this weekend whether to go ahead and order the more powerful pumps. I may have some 10W diodes available for steve-o.
Should this not be in the big green thread eric
Intresting stuff though look forward to seeing
The finished project , will you be revieling details
For those that want to try and build one as well ?
When God said “Let there be light” he surely must have meant perfectly coherent light.
OOPS
Re-posted and yes I will reveal the details in a couple of videos.
Anyone have a terminated beam shot of just the P73 when centered with the 2mm FL lens. Trying to figure out for certain what far field centered should look like. I seem to have some wing like reflections still above and below the centered stripe. I don't get these with some other lenes, but mrad is better with the 2mm lens.
I know if I would just post a picture it would be easier to tell me if it is normal, but i forgot to take one last night.
leading in trailing technology
No....I do not have that pic....But....I remember the uncorrected geometry was a very thin horizontal bar,,,,,with a tail of each long end. Each tail is around 1/2 the length of the center bar. Each tail is about 1/5 the height of the bar. Where the tail starts next to the bar.... it is alittle thicker and it tapers to a point.
At least...this is what I remember....But....Right now....I do not have a single P73.....just a dual.....
Optimal positioning is when each tail is of equal length and the tails are centered on the vertical of the bar.
When corrected with the cylinderical lenses...ALL is compressed....but some " junk " remains ...and IIRC....the wings/junk are rotated 90 degree....and then present above and below the beam dot with less length. Only remedy is spatical masking....which works very well to remove this last bit of aberation.

Polishedball,
The video I will post tonight will show the beam from this diode at each stage from this collimation lens alone to the full set up as the optics are added. Stay tuned.
Does anyone know the specifics about the ML520G71 other than what is on the data sheet?
I recently purchased this diode, and I got the data sheet from online. However, I need to know some specifics about the diode itself, such as what type of diode it is and what its structure is. Can you help me with this information? Do you know specifically what type of diode it is, for example, is it any of the following? And also what type of material is used for it: InGaAsP, InP, InGaN, etc.?
heterostructure
quantum-well structure
multiquantum-well
double heterostructure
quantum-confined
microcavity
etc.
Thank you very much!
