Wow, the majestic old grail thread resurrected ! Welcome to PL Ericksun. I don't remember the details of the -G71 construction, someone here might, though ..
I might not hold my breath too long though .. There have been a couple of improvements on this laser diode design since it was 1st released a few years ago ..

Newest generation Red diode....and likely the new red diode to tame !! Hopefully will not be as bad as the P-73 or G-71 !!!!!!!

First look by DTR looks to be less divergence and more W's out the front door !!

Cant let the Grail Thread die.
Just a quick question to all the P73 people out there. I'm modifying a build for the upcoming 4th of July party(ies) .. What current is everybody running these days for the Mitsu P73? Last info I could find was about 1 Amp. Has anybody had a failure yet at this current? Or are there some brave souls out there overdriving them even harder with success? (I'm not referring to TEC builds, or Sir Planters' super-exotic dry-ice/LN2 builds ) Just good ole-fashioned thick alum plate, large heat sinks and fans.

0,8A max without TEC but on good heatsink with fins&fans. 1,1A for near 1w out when teced @18ºC. I go for option #2. No problems

Hi Steve !! As far as the P-73's....yea....with no cooling....I would agree 800~1000mA MAX.....Honestly I have moved over the Oclaro 63193's....Slightly tighter FF B4 cylindricals.....and now cheap....and 1W at 1100mA !! That works !! Planters is now a big fan of water cooling !! Likely a great replacement vs these crappy TE's
More bulky....but....I think I may experiment with something off the shelf from the " Overclocking" group !!!...Seeing as there seems to be nothing new on the RED front !!!!

Hey Bob! Thanks I have not heard of the Oclaro 63193, these will put out 1 Watt? Do you have a spec-sheet/source, I'd like to check them out, as I've been out of the loop for a little while. Yes water cooling does sound good. Using the same (but smaller) technology used on the big ol' gas ion rigs heh, come full circle, eh? Thanks 4 the info!

That is interesting about the 63193's.

Water cooling is great. It's cheap, quiet and very effective. I like the Corsair models. This becomes really useful when you throw in a TEC that can easily increase the waste heat problem by an order of magnitude. The water cooling is unfazed by whatever heat I've thrown at it.

Been there/am there. It is feasible. But, a new red IS needed to match these really exciting new blues.

Steve...see the attached 63193 data sheet.

Well....the Oclaro is rated for 700mW vs the 500mW on the P73...Since they are rated for more photons out the front door...I feel more comfortable driving one up to 1.0 0r 1.1 A

And....well...to my eye...the vertical wings are just slightly less present with the Oclaro 63193....when coupled with the 2mm EFL collimation lens from LSP and a cylindrical telescope set....so...I will stick with the Oclaro 63193.

At only $32 a pop (63193).....well....inexpensive enough !!.....Mr. P....perhaps you can throw in here....and do show a few shots using the Corsair Water cooling unit !!!

Again...since there is nothing new on the Red front....the incorporation of Water cooling may be just the extra refinement to push either the P-73 or the Oclaro 63193....right to the wall !! Thanx Eric !!! We should W/C a quad NUBM44 Too !!!!!

Hahaha....still some life left in the old Grail thread !!!!....at 1,370 posts !!! I think this thread has not gone the way of the DoDo bird....because it has such a catchy name !!!!!.... BTW....Terrawatt came up with the name !!! haha.... She still sits with me as I experiment !!! Right behind me in a large high back office chair !!!
