Thanx Andrew !!! My current set of your cylinderical lenses from the previous GB do a very good job with my ML520G71 set up. A customized set with 5~5.5 magnification might even be better !!! If the latest ML501P73 can also be tamed....then we MIGHT have a real winner. At the VERY least...a dual can be constructed...( Waveplate + PBS )............which would deliver 1W....without any overdriving !! Again...this is assuming that the emitter size for the ML520G71 = ML501P73. Thanx everyone for all your work !!!

    3w 4.5mm x 4.5mm 637 would be awesome... where do I sign up?

Are these diodes really available for $70 now?
well, the 300mw go for around 70 usd these days, so a custom set of prisms to go with the short FL lenses like the optima would really be usefull

Sorry, I was in a hurry..

Of course I'm only concerned with the larger angle! The beam divergence in the vertical axis (fast axis) can easily be adjusted to suit ones needs with the focus of the aspheric collimator.
The last picture shows the vertical axis slightly expanded. The picture before the last is tightly focused.

Anyway Solfire, your tests are showing positive results so well done for helping the community to get better red. I have some diodes on the way and will apply some tests to them.

From what I am seeing it might be a case of having one final cylindrical lens to pull in the wider angle, maybe a lens with a very long focal length will do it but who knows how fat the beam will be after that. The 8mm at 11meters is very encouraging.

I have a set of lenses with very fine and long focal lengths for tweaking beams so given your results I think we are quite close to solving this which should also work ok for the new 500mW diode from what I see in the datasheet.

I would not go rushing out to buy any 500mW versions yet tho as these little diodes often give us some surprises.

Yeah.. I've thought about using a single long FL cylinder lens to correct the beam, but had some thoughts on the pointing stability with the lens placed to far from the diode-/collimator aperture. Well anyway I'm looking forward to your results.

well im just excited to see someone post the results of 2 of the 500mw in a wave plate plus PBS cube.
even if we drive them to 500mw each thats about a 1W for under 500$ of red.
We might finally have something to go with the 445nm lasers.
But with all these fat beam i will need to make the beam on my green lasers larger.
