Well Steve...I am SOMEWHAT of the opinion that this diode.....WITH the improved higher magnification cylinderical lenses by Drlava... MAY make this diode OK for beam shows. But I am likely optimistic !! Yikes....and maybe outa focus too !!! I would order a set or two from the good Doctor.....but will others ??? Drlava...how many are needed to make a minimum consist for a group buy for cylindrical lenses with a magnification 5 ~ 8 ???

i am up for some 5 to 8x lens ,if there is no group buy where do i look for some?
as i know shit about lens

was there ever a mount made for the lava lens setup ??
as i am looking for one

When God said “Let there be light” he surely must have meant perfectly coherent light.

Badger, See post #86. I cooked up this mount and am finishing it up in the next day or so. I like to work in acrylic so one can verify the alignment. However...without an End Mill....it would be a real challenge to do even this simple construct. ( Thanx Simon !!)

    Andrew...GB on higher magnification C-Lenses ???

Could just epoxy them to baseplates similar to this? :

Yikes Steve...That would be WAY too easy !!! Besides....I have to make things to justify my purchase of an End Mill haha !! Yes....you could do that....but I believe their may be some optical variations ...from diode to diode. Once you glue....You are through !!! With the LCL mount....you have adjustabillity. But...as with the Anamorphic prisms.....I imagine that too much clamping force could damage the optics !! So....just a little tightening would be enough !! I have even gone to using a minature rubber gromet when clamping prisms to cushion the optics....works fine !!

Point is that Cylinderical lenses are a PITA to work with. They are very small and the position needs to be just right. The LCL holder is just one way to get a handle on these tiny suckers !!

you bought an end mill? i got a 6ft one and a modded lathe into a mill if i need another.
Is it a micro bench mill if so ill trade my 6ft for it!

i could also use a few pointers concerning higher magnification cylinders!!!
of course, a GB would be more than wellcome

well, this thread seems to have gone cold all of a sudden. i sure hope that the LPC836 does not take us all off the mark, which if cheap usable sub-640nm coherent light!!!

Just tested a ML520G71 with a standard aixiz glass lens (for extreme clipping) and, results: 245mw output driving at 495mA. (95mA over spec limit.) Added a prism and it looks to be a very usable beam. At $65 a pop, a quarter watt aint too bad. We probably wont ever know the mttf (or, at least for a while.) These seem to be tough. (toughter than the opnext, which I've popped a few by now .. cha-ching .. /

_edit_ you gotta love o-like "It can be 779mW at 1050mA" they say ..lol. no overdrive there ..

    LPC-836
    ?? Who wants a 660?? When you can have 638 ? :P

Default Photoxication at the 638 line !

Well...I reconstructed my ML520G71 test bed...See pics. There are also a few pics of the cylinderical lens holder I machined from acrylic. Unit is driven with P3 set at 554 mA output after all optics at 401 mW. Slightly overdriven...yes....but not much. 405-G 1 colliminator lens and Drlava original GB Cylinderical lenses.

Closely measured the beam @ aperature: 1.5 x 4mm. I have not set up fold mirror(yet) to obtain a longer distance for more accurate beam measurements....but...for now... using 137 calculator... ( 0 feet / 1.5mm and 13 feet/ 8.5mm )...out pops 1.77 mRad.

Less than 4% loss with C-lenses.

Also tried Cylinderical lens placement at 100~150mm from LD aperature. No better results.

    Possibly....with a higher C-lens magnification...we could get less divergence ??

If you have scanner mirrors that take a 5mm beam...good to go....for beam shows....I think ??

Drlava...Group buy for higher magnification cylinderical lenses ????????

omg i cant wait to see that.
So are you going to try to fold the beam or are the results good enough?
Did i mention i want to see that?
    is there an entry charge?
