    CDBEAM,
Try lengthening your baseline. One or even two mirrors will magnify all your lasers' shortcomings. You will see your beam profile and focus as well as the co-alignment of beams from different lasers and this is very cheep and easy to set up. The best target surface I have discovered is the mat aluminized side of foil covered rigid polyurethane foam board (big box store stuff). By looking at this at an oblique angle the glare is reduced and there is no surface diffusion which would enlarge the spot dimensions.

    An update,

Waiting for a delivery of lenses that will identify the special one. Also, busy on other stuff.

Also, waiting for the TEC driver to keep it cooler to do full power range testing.

I will be back with news as I get it.

Mr. Planters...A beam folding arrangment is something I keep meaning to set up. Simple and cheap. With one mirror...I could easily get 13 Meters. Thanx for the info on a beam target !! Someday a CCD set up like Steve suggested is also a goal. I am reading up on beam profiling....on the cheap !! Like anything with the " L " word can be cheap !! haha

    Andy...Good.

    here's my ten cents worth
i can also confirm a fairly usable beam from these diodes , using a super short fl lens
    and dr lava lens set.
but need to get one of daves diode mounts ,that allows diode tweeking to get the beam spot on
    at the moment i am seeing 4x4mm @ apeture 28mm @ 22m , sounds like 1.1mrad to me
beam also has a little flare around it because the diode not quite centered, but at the end of the day the beams
only 4mm bigger than my 445 @ 22m and i have not finished tweeking, but sadly will have to wait till next week to play some more
i will let you guys know the complete setup when i have finished testing , so far it looks like i may get good results
to add i am also seeing 430mw @500ma

Looks great Badger, This looks to be a great source for a beam projector and possible even graphics. I am very interested in them for Beams mostly , bright 635 and lots of power and cheap. Please let us know what lens , I already have some of the dr lava lens sets to use

    CDBEAM,
Another cheap trick is to use a webcam to "photograph" and store your spot images. I was compelled to do this when I was aligning lasers remote from the projector and discovered the software allows me to capture an image and manipulate the contrast/brightness etc and is very convenient for comparison when dialing in the focus and alignment even if a strehl ratio isn't available.

HA! Wow! nice work Badger! I just knew that this wasn't impossible. I ordered another diode today from DTR (this time not pressed into an aixiz module (oops) .. Is everybody using the Lava lenses that were used for the blue 445s? I need to order a set.

the lava lens is the trick along with very short fl lens will pass on the full details when i finish testing, dont want people buying a load of stuff
and blaming me because they cant get it to work,
all i will say is i can match what andy's getting, its just a pain to setup and you need paitents doin it , but results are worth it
    430mw of 638nm @ 1.1mrad = for me

andy hope you find that lens the boys will be baying for a GB
