Anyone else having issues with huge wings power loss, no matter the glass I try I seem to have this issue. I am trying a dave's retainer with multiple lens. Including the optima lens I seem to have the issue no matter. ideas? This retainer is from the very first batch some time ago not sure if anything has changed with it.

    LANek,
I think those cylinders will do the trick. The only two complicating issues is their large size difference and the problem of mounting them and the clear aperture of the smaller negative cylinder;will the vertical dimension of the pre-expanded strip pass?
    CD,
The Edmond prisms I ordered specify a 0.5% reflection loss at 645/surface. Are the prisms that you are comparing to the lenses coated? I don't understand the 15% loss. Where is it going?

Planters...I have trialed with A-Prisms from the GB with P1t8ull...Simon...are these coated ??? I cannot remember !!! They are perfect for the 445LD....BUT when using the 445....the incidence angle is Brewsters....and a much more severe angle is required for the reds !!!...hence the loss. I assume the loss is manifest at the waste beams generated. There are waste beams when correcting the 445 also. I am just much less a fan of A-prisms than I was a short time ago. I have yet to trial my Drlava cylinder set on a 445 LD beam....but would NOT be suprised if it provided less loss and better beam correction. We will see !!

    PB...Yes...I have some vertical wings...with the 405 G 2 Colli lens. I attached a pinhole aperature....,and reduced it somewhat....but the " cost " was a 30mW power loss !!

Almost like it needs to be pin holed or something. I'll setup quick and grab a picture.

well, i too have huge wings and other people have got the same, regardless of lenses. by huge i mean 2-3 times the spot size on either side.
nothing to worry about i think, as with beam correction optics they go away (or the galvos clip them)

Mine are alot worse. It seems most have better results. Thats why I am confused. Mine are in the order of 10~30X's
These photos are at 25' or so. Thoughts? The usable beam is pretty nice, but what a mess on the edges it looks scaned

    John,

That looks like you are clipping inside the lens mount. and by the look of the first photo it looks more obvious.

which lens and holder are you trying to use.

That was my thought, but aren't Dave's retainers the preferred mount for glass?

I have tried multiple Lens but all in the same retainer that came from Dave way back for the 445's. Is it just to small of an entrance on the retainer?

The best result was using the optima lens that is commonly used for the red 660's.

    Picture of the retainer.
