Are you just putting only the lens in front of the diode and getting the effect or do you have anything else ?

The best result was using the optima lens that is commonly used for the red 660's.

    John,

Just to recap, a few weeks ago when I started to test this diode, I rejected the usual 445nm,HLXXX, 660nm etc.. Lenses because I didnt get anywhere with them, I cannot remember if I had such bug "Wings" anytime but often you do with laser diodes to a point but these are usually so fine to be almost invisible.

So if you are using a usual lens like O-like, for 445 or anything else similar, you wont get very good results on a G71 diode no matter how many prisms or cylindrical lenses you try. It takes a totally different lens to even start trying to get the beam good.

Thanks I thought somewhere in here it was reported that the 4mm FL's from here worked http://optima-prec.com/molded.htm

Will look forward to you Lens info. Also to answer you question that is using a drlava cylindrical lens set, but it is the same issue with or without them.

I didnt see any posts with the optima was good for the G71, it did get a bit confusing around a week ago with different lens ideas running around.

Default You are the Photons beneath my wings

I tried to take a beam shot....beam target is about 4M from the LD. Wings can be seen...above and below the main dot...about 100mm in either direction...very faint tho. Other pic is of a pinhole mask I attached to the C-Lens mount front....with an aperature dia. at 4.5mm. This does eliminate some trash...not all...but does knock of 30 mW of output.

Drlava !!! How many does it take to get a GB.... ??? Dave...Simon....any interest to doa GB for C-Lenses ??????????????????

EDIT : found it ~ Guessing you mentioned it somewhere else in the 16 pages, but what lens are you using?

For now....405 G 2 for collimation and original GB DRlava Cylinderical....In the future....LSP 3mmFL in adjustable LD mount...and likely a 6 to 8 magnification set of Cylinderical lenses....and...and....hopefully....I will be taking the ML501P73 for a spin around the block !!!. Sometimes technology moves very fast....Yikes.....Beam

I have been trying to find a pair for ages to buy and test, seams they are quite hard to find, even tried directly but 12weeks was the soonest possible. If you find a source let me know we can then order a few more to drop the price.

So what Kind of power are you seeing out of this diode? I only fired up one of mine, but it was holding at 730mw at under a amp of current. This was metered close as I was loosing alot to the wing issue I have, but reading there can be a big difference? some people peak at 500mw?
