Default A Little Bit Closer NOW !!!

Just finished testing the 3mmFL lens from Dave at LSP. We ARE getting closer !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I measure 1.16mR....at 13.7M... using 1mm at aperature and 17mm at 13.7 M. Almost equal to the beam corrected 445 LD !!!! At 13.7M my A-prism corrected 445 is 14mm vs the 17mm of the HL501G71. Power output equal to that of the 405 G 2 lens.....so...OK in that area !! Maybe now....the final puzzle piece will be to couple this with 6X Cylinderical lenses !!!!!! But....really.....we have more or less demonstrated that this diode is correctable..In my opinion...it is just fine refinements now. As far as power and diode life....well ...perhaps some overdrive.....and possible we can have 5000hrs MTTF AND overdrive to 400 ~ 500mW....IF we TE cool !!!......AND ...there is still the ML501P73 to investigate !!!!

    BEAM

OH....AND....THANX TO ANDY F97 for initially suggesting that a short fl aspherical collimation lense was piviotal to bringing this beam under control...like I said in a previous post....we ALL build on each others findings...good or bad !!!

You are all welcome and I am glad my little testing effort resulted in something for all.

I WANT AN ML501P73 BECAUSE I HAVE A GREAT OPTICS IDEA.

Anyone noticed this yet: The design and performance of the G71 is running very close to the 445nm diode, in that it is tolerant to being over driven with Temp and power, isolated design and like the 445 it will not need any costly ESD protection such as lzbs.. Wondering if these 445s and G71s are being produced by the same company. Yes we all assume its Mitsubishi and Nichia but maybe its not. Maybe they are being knocked off by one company who is selling them on to the brands. This might explain the massive price difference the brands have.

    Ahh and Good morning everyone.

hey bob glad you are seeing results almost the same as me :-)
I think I will crank mine up a bit today and make it a 1.2w dual.

@steve-o you been on the home brew?? You went a little crazy for a bit..
When God said “Let there be light” he surely must have meant perfectly coherent light.

    Interesting development.

oP measured direct out of the diode with no lenses.

I was putting one up to 1.8 amps today, power was peaking at 1,1w then rapid dropping due to heating, once it goes over 28c the power is effected significantly.

AT one point while messing around I ended up giving it 2,4 amps the heat shot up to 68c but I did not have time to check the power because i quickly dropped it down before I killed it. The temp sensor is slow enough to retain the temp longer where the power meter is almost instant response.

So they are tough as the 445s

    More G71 Testing more accurate

    All at 2.5v

    960 mA @ 18.0c - 800mW
    1200 mA @ 16.0c - 970mW
    1430 mA @ 15.0c - 1020mW
    1600 mA @ 12:0c - 1050mW
    1800 mA @ 10:0c - 1090mW

    1480 mA @ 7.0c - 1200mW

    1480 mA @ 5.0c - 1200mW

    1800 mA @ 5.0c - 1200mW

Its taking ages between tests due to needing the temperature stabilize

A photo with the current set around 1.5amps
    Attachment 28715

    My recommendation is 25c, 1A, 2.5v, 755mW

A video with the current set at 1amp, temp stable at 4.4c. Then you see the decrease in power as the diode heats up. Almost peaks to 1w at 1amp when at 4.4c

And its still working ok even after this destruction..

Been following with interest and, I have a feeling y'all are going to eventually make me *really* upset I spent $3,200 on a Kvant 1.2 watt 640 not too long ago!

On the other hand........ GO! GO! GO!

Yes, I've gone thru over $1000 in diodes alone just experimentation .. expensive hobby.. Especially the R&D part.

I had to remove that post as it was "off-topic" lol. Yes the wine was flowing late last nite , heh .

Anyway, Kudos to all who have made this happen! Great work !
