Yea...I will be the first to admit...I killed one !!!!! Let us call it...." Currentious Interiputius " HAHAHA...I blew the first ML520G71 from DTR via a stupid mistake....er....ahhhh....I " Blew the Diode" with a millisecond disconnect from the LD to the bench top PS. I was too much in a hurry to hook up a driver....and connected it to my Leader Bench Top PS. While this is a good DC supply....when one only has aligator clips connecting the PS to the diode....well...one may PAY THE PRICE !!! POOF...Magic Smoke leaks out !!!! Only a very dim red glow !!! So....you can kill one....just as you can kill a 445....via the same method !!!......Terrawatt( And the Cod ) said..." You big DUMMY " !!!!!!!! That's alota Milk Bones !!! DUH !!!!!!!

I've killed a couple overvoltageing them. Got the PS set up for constant-current and an intermittent solder connection (due to my continuous desoldering-resoldering the leads) popped the voltage up to about 10V and wham! Cod for dinner anyone? Got slaw to go with that? And a milkbone for Terawatt to be sure. Or at that price a bucket or ten or twenty buckets of milkbones :] Me big dummy too (the cod-fish sez) ..

Well, I'm pumped! Last night I put over an amp to a G71 and it didnt die (of course). Judging from the tests that Polishedball did : 3 days run-time @ 714 ma, Andy did: 1.8amps delivering 1200mw after optics!, and DTR's vid; 7 minutes at 1.5amps, I'm starting to think of a dual build pushing 1 amp each diode! Of course I'll have to design/build a quick drop-in replacement dually so that when it does inevitably fail , (which it will) I can be out-of -service only a couple of minutes red-less. Or possibly a built in redundant system where the new reds would kick in with just a flick of a switch . Working on that one. That'll take some thought . Hmm, motorized 2-position mirror .. hmm ..

So I think we're clear that 1W of 635 out of a dual setup would be both achievable and a long term durable prospect?

You are using Bonetti's defense against me, ah?

I thought it fitting, considering the rocky terrain.

I would say achievable, I wouldn't go so far as "long term durable"

a dual setup for only 1W total power would have a decent life as your driving them around 500-650ma.
I have mine set at 500ma and its going great i did meter it but wouldn't you know i forgot to write it down.
I think the biggest thing we need now is another supplier of the correction optics.
I got a company if someone has the specs.

Yeah the lenses are the issue, all we're sure about is that it's a short FL lens for collimation -like the 405G2 (?) and that Dr.Lava's cylindrical lenses do a fairly good job at 100mm or so .. (?) There was talk about different magnification though.. so a quite a few unanswered questions still remain.

I'll be building mine at 1.5w dual, The projector sees about 15 hours of on time a week. So I can keep you in the loop when it dies or experiences power drop as long as I am ahead of you in hours it could be your gauge.

What ill effects are scene when closer than 100mm? at 30' i didn't visually notice much. Or does it play into an infinity focus point?
