so has anyone tried to scan the beam to see what it looks like? IS the 6x lens setup the final on this diode. Lastley did anyone try using a beam expander? I use a 2x on my blue and focus it on the wall in my graphics room and it matches well with my dpss dhom and a 4 banger 638nm 170mw quad red setup. I wonder if it might do the same for this red. Unfortunely I do not have a spare to try it with but they are only $30.00. It does clip the beam but in this case that would be a good thing to help clean it up and take out the wings.
i have scanned images with the beam and it does look good but i might not have as high standards as others.
So what may be good for me may not be the same for you.
Also i have no good way to record any video or pictures.
I have a phone camera that is 5MP and thats about it.
Also all my current drivers are TTL so they run at full power or no power.
You could expand both the fast and slow on the diode but you would go from a 4mm beam to much larger. so im not sure you would want that.
As it is i am going to have to expand my green as the beam is right around 2mm with a 1.2mRad and i need it to match my red and blue.
I will be running a 1W dual at the UKLEM in a couple of weeks so should be some decent shots & video to upload....
+1 i will also running a dual at that lem![]()
When God said “Let there be light” he surely must have meant perfectly coherent light.
So i have gotten a very very good beam of around 4mm by 2mm at the the last c lens and getting about a 1.06 mRad.
I will give a power reading once i build a new driver for the red.
But i think i have found out a good combo of lenses.
Currently my test lenses were made of plastic to keep testing cost and i am in the process of getting a set of glass coated lenses made.
Sounds like what we're all looking for Kiyoukan! Got pix?![]()
Okay so some more updates.
Its time to ask the forums for help.
So as far as i have found we want a lens with a focal length between 2.5EFL and 3.3 EFL with a NA no less than 0.6 however a 0.72 would be ideal.
with a diameter of no less than 4mm and a CA of over 3.3
So in short from what i have found the best possible lens for our application would be.
EFL-----NA-----CA(mm)-----OD(mm)-----WD(mm)
2.5-----0.72----4.0---------6mm-------- 1 to 2mm
3.3-----0.72----4.0---------6mm-------- 1.54 to 2.5mm
If someone here on the forums can come up with the design so i can submit it to the company that would be great.
However there was a close production lens found.
The closest production lens i have found is NT83-676 from edmunds.
EFL-----NA-----CA(mm)-----OD(mm)-----WD(mm)
2.54-----0.66----3.3---------4mm-------- 1.55mm
That lens is made by the company LightPath and sold to Edmunds
However they are just as expensive.
I have found a manufacture who can make them, they are the same people who made my cylindrical lenses.
I wont know till the first of the month when the manufacturer gets back to me if they can replicate a lens i send them.
If they cant we would need to come up with the design.
I was talking to some people about the 2.9FL lens that i think dave has from LSP but was told it had a na of around 0.45
This i cannot confirm. but if someone has more details on this lens pleas please post them.

If you are going to have a custom lens made go for 2.5mm fl with minimum NA of .6. I have tried the 3.1mm thorlabs lens and the FA is still a little bigger than 3mm. So, a 2.5mm should give a little less than 3mm. Plus with a faster diverging beam the use of a 4x telescope should give good results in a smaller footprint.
FYI, I talked to lightpath and the salesperson said the 3mm and under lenses are really hard to manufacture.
If you are trying to get a "tight" beam to fit on 3mm scanners I would look at other diodes IMHO.
3mm FL or CA or diameter?
More details on the lens you used if you can try to supply the EFL-----NA-----CA(mm)-----OD(mm)-----WD(mm)
Also what power and a image of the dot.
yea the 2.5 is the lens i am wanting to get made.
Lets hope there is someone here who can design a lens or maybe has their own supplier.
