This thread is so long that I may have missed some of the discussion, but one advantage of the prisms is that they do not produce any off axis aberations. If there is any design that is trying to add the expansion optics to the combined beam as opposed to each diode's independent beam then a single prism has an advantage there.
I'm not sure about the losses with prisms, as the loss is nearly all from reflection and not from absorbtion. I don't understand the importance of the glass type. It would be important that the coating is designed for the wavelength and the AOI. When I ordered prisms from EO, their tech. department was able to give me a loss spec. thru a prism pair at 445nm for my desired magnification and their value (0.5%) was very good.

Are Dave's lenses mounted in a threaded aixiz-type lens holder?
(oops , didnt see your post there planters, we musta posted at the same time .. )

    Yes he posted an image.
It is just a simple glue in style lens holder.
m9 05 threaded with a 3.3mm D 0.5mm deep depression for the lens and then a 3mm hole roughly for the beam to go threw then on the other side a 6mm hole going all the way back 1mm away from the depression lip. over all length is about 10mm.
I can post a 3d image of it in a few min.

The funny thing is everything you need to know (well almost) is in the first 2 pages.

Different index of refraction. The index of refraction and AOI determines how much the beam "bends". Depending on the polarization of the input beam and AOI you could get into reflection problems with different angles/ index of ref. due to Brewsters angle. Also, if properly designed it could help the losses. Losses are also different dependent on if you are compressing or expanding the beam.

With the p71 diodes I used two sets of prism to try and help the aberrations but they did no better than a cylinder set-up( besides being more forgiving to placement). Other poblem is you need to put a 1/2 waveplate before the prisms so you don't lose all the power to reflection.

    Lol, here we go again!

Have you tested the lenses that you are talking about? Several lenses were tested, and the one that I have been selling provided the best results by a long shot.

I dont think $40 is at all unreasonable, have you looked at buying something from Thor or Edmonds?

So if you guys would want i could go and do that.
So the lens plus the holder would keep the price under 30$. But the lead time on the lens holders is 36days and the lenses would only take about 2 weeks.
Now that price of 30$ could change depending on the shipping cost of the order from china to here so maybe 1$ more.
So i can beat most prices but as a forum we would need to decide is this a good thing to do.
Dave sells alot of nice things, would it be worth it to save 10$? and under sell him?
He sells a good product and i would buy more often if he was state side.
That being said if any one wants to open a laser store state side im willing to work out a deal with you for suppliers just so we have a good source of parts here.

Dave, have you built anything w/ the G-71 diode? I think I remember you posting that you primarily use the 63133, right? Any opinions on the solutions discussed thus far?

Yes they have been tested. i got several from many companys such as light path and RPO and a custom one made with a FL of 2mm diameter of 3.2mm.
Some of them cost well over 100$ just for the one off lens.
But i have gotten many question about them.
As i have stated in the thread im not wanting to get these diode lenses made.

    read that post please
I can if people want to that bad but i would rather not.

hey dave is that us or au $$ for these lens , and does the lens come mounted in the retainer ? dont think i fancy gluing somthing that small
When God said “Let there be light” he surely must have meant perfectly coherent light.

    You must glue them yourself.
these lenses are to small for any other decently priced way.
Daves design is not hard to glue i did mine with no problem
The lens does not sit all the way in the hole there is a good exposed edge that you just slide the glue against.

^second that. Not hard to glue at all.
