Decanning a LD is a way to get a precision micro-lens very very close to the emitter facet. I know no other reason other than what you stated Planters, that is, in an analysis mode.

well some have stated you can run at higher powers a decanned diode due to less heat being held in by the can.
But yes it for taking picture of the die and emitter.
Als the GB is going SLOW waiting for a bank transfer that was said to take between 2 and 10 days. (its been 5 days and still has yet to land)
So that might increase the time frame.
But we will see.
Other than that we are just waiting.
Thanx for the update K :]
Cheers!!
Thanx...Machining is Fun !!! Challenging too !!! Another OL pic....BEAM
Beam Axiom #1 ~The Quantum well is DEEP ! Photons for ALL !!
.
Beam Axiom #2 ~Yes...As a matter of fact...I DO wear tinfoil on my head !!
.
Beam Axiom #3 ~Whe'n dout...Po ah Donk awn et !!

Beam Axiom #4 ~A Chicken in every Pot, and a Laser Lumia in every Livingroom !!

Beam Axiom #5 ~"Abstract Photonic Expressionism"....is "Abstractonimical" !!
.
Beam Axiom #6 ~ "A Posse ad Essea" ~ From being possible to being actual ...is the beam target !
^ LOL .. now I KNOW that Terawatt Labs is outer-worldly .. mad scientists beware ...![]()
CDBEAM great machining as usual!
Hey did you use a modified tap bit for your adjusting screws like was mentioned before on this?
Also, I cant recall the reasoning behind adjusting the diode mount rather than the lens mount... This was discussed I believe, yet I cant seem to remember!![]()
Well i know what im buying! 8W 635nm build is finally on the table and it will have under a 5mm beam and 1.05mRad to!
before getting excited what is the emitter size? Is it 150um or a 100um? Its seems that the knowledge is there for using these mitsubishi diodes for beamshows. For graphics its a different ball game so can the 73,s also be used ?

Aside from the emitter question, the cost curve seems pretty steep. $50 for a 300mW diode and $135 for a 500mW diode.
