@absolom7691 I was chatting with my brother and he had an excellent idea that I should try using the 405nm laser on some of this Europium phosphorescent powder from United Nuclear. I'd bet it would react pretty strongly.

405 (bluray) is big fun for that. i painted a section of my garage with glow in the dark paint and then built a 405nm lumia projector.

suppose you're thinkin' about a plate o' shrimp. Suddenly someone'll say, like, plate, or shrimp, or plate o' shrimp out of the blue, no explanation. No point in lookin' for one, either. It's all part of a cosmic unconciousness.

@Swamidog that is really really freaking cool. I don't want to get ahead of myself but later on I'm very interested in learning how to build a projector/scanner like that. So far all I've done is built a jury rigged horizontal "liquid sky" scanner using computer fan parts and a mirror scavenged from a surplus professional laser scanner- I used it for my employer's haunted house last year. Worry not, I kept the laser well above the eye-line of visitors pointed in a way they could just see it creating a plane in the air above them.

Simply amazing. I am actually picking up some materials for my lumia today. Any recommendations on cheap low RPM motors? This is the best I have found: http://www.goldmine-elec-products.co...?number=G15492 Since it is DC, I was thinking of running it at 3V instead of 6V. 1.5 RPM. The only problem with these type of gear reductions, they are kind of loud.

i like the hankscraft .5rpm motors, but they're increasingly difficult to find. on my "lumia eggbeater" i used pulley and belt ratios to slow things down.

hey, i am not an irresponsible guy recommending whatever to whoever
the link i posted is for a 80mw diode, not the 1w pocket monster

to have visible blue, you have to go the 473 dpss way, put this, unfrtyunately, costs mid 3-digit money

@LaNeK779 exactly- I was pleased to see it wasn't those overpowered 1W diodes I'm seeing everywhere. 80mW is a good strength, still needs safety precautions but not nearly as dangerous. I'm reading through that Sam's Laser Guide and maybe when I'm done I'll be confident to build my first custom laser from one of those diodes.
