Hey man, that's cool I'm feeling ya, I get your point.

If you are referencing a recent spam post regarding a pointer, I believe the comments they received were drawn out by the irresponsible behaviour demonstrated and more importantly the obvious and very cheeky spamming, rather than the pointer itself. I challenge you to find real criticism from this community simply about pointers and importantly where no irresponsible behaviour is demonstrated or spamming has occurred. There may well be instances, but I don't see a theme of this on PL (in my experience anyway).

There may well be some pointer-related jibes from a few here, but these are mostly jovial.

That's what I said on a recent post where a new-ish member mentioned "burning tape"... However, he mentioned burning and lighting as a way to state the apparent power of his laser. someone came down on him like he was pointing at Air Force 1...

I think people 'graduate' to PL from LPF. they get bored of burning and such, wonder what useful purposes lasers have, and wind up here.

you guys all need to keep in mind - since you do sell parts and such, that these newcomers are your future customers and friends. And possibly even your future competitors.

    be nice to noobs.

The recent thread I found a little close to the mark, the most offensive posts (imo) were before any detail came out about the fact it might be spam.

That said, pot and kettle, I'm sure I've been guilty of rudeness to the pointer folk in the past (and non-pointer folk come to think of it.... can I plead consistency?)

You are using Bonetti's defense against me, ah?

I thought it fitting, considering the rocky terrain.

I think I missed that post. Has it been removed?

Well the sudden post fuck off right away was a bit too attacking.
but what PL does need is a rule where it clearly says, NO LASER POINTER TALK Please.
in that case we aren't forbidding the talk about laser pointers, but are mentioning that we aren't really about pointers.
I think its a good idea to at least inform someone that, namely new registered users should see this.

    Can you post a link?

To be honest, I have missed most of this through being busy away with work or the fact I simply don't read pointer threads. Sounds like I missed some juicy posts, I could do with a few choice one liners to bolster my vocabulary.

From the other side of the coin.

I started on Laser ....... forums and came over here because my interests changed more to gas lasers. But, It was strongly suggested by members from there or those on both, before I came, not to bring up pointers or I would never hear the end of it.

Not everyone with a pointer is a 16 year old idiot, pointing them at a helicopter. IMHO Flaming about pointers only discourages people from posting on here and prevents some of us from learning from others here.

I'm hitting 50 this year and I probably have that many pointers also. OTOH I also have a wahzoo of HeNe's, a couple Argons, a few DPSS labbys, plus the other glass tube things like dekatrons and UV tubes, Nixie tubes and clocks and a very cool old geissler tube. I like to learn, starting with a pointer is the first step to building an RGB projector, IMO.

OK done with rant, time to get flamed!

I think this is where people have misread the situation. A spammer posts spam and is told to "fuck off. Rightly so (in my opinion of course, because it's very rare one gets the opportunity to do so)! Don't go on about us not knowing that we didn't know it was spam to start with, it had "spam" written all over it. If you are suggesting we should be more polite to spammers, you're welcome to suggest that and you have a point.

Dave, that's no way to speak to new spammers. Next time be more polite: "What part of fuck off don't you fuckin understand?!!!"
