Well said Marc and Dan- I am one of those sending balloon burners and match poppers here to learn he truly cool things that lasers can do.

I always tell then to think beyond pointers and keep discussions of such to the 'other' forum.


Once thier addiction progresses from pointers to scanners they always tell me they now know what I mean. Plus once you start buying parts for a build you have absolutely no cash left to spend on handhelds, and in fact they ofter get sold to buy things like dichros-mounts-labbies- scannersets- PS- lasercontrollers-DACs- cases- emergency stops- software- etc etc-- So they indeed are the customers of tommorrow.

Maybe some of those guys are too thin-skinned and maybe a little kinder approach to them would be better/wiser..

I'm just going from experience here. I know I landed in this hobby through pointers, and if I joined up and was greeted with some of the posts I've seen, I would have cancelled my membership the second I posted.

Spammers, sure, flame your heart out, but I know regular users have been attacked too.

Also, don't forget that most of the lasers we use as 'display' lasers were harvested by the pointer geeks to begin with... so in essence, they are a good source of knowledge and torturing the crap out of vulnerable, expensive laser diodes, so we can use the rest of them in their "Maximum Operating Conditions" as estabilished and make pretty pictures

That was the reason the whole C4$10 riot started in the first place. People harvested the Nichias to burn holes in stuff, not to make pretty laser shows first.
