Don't you just love PL... If users flame too much there is no moderator to give warnings, ban users or other crap. Contrary, the users theirselves make a new thread and admit they're wrong and how things should be in the future, with plenty of the same Monty Python references.

After which everything continues as it was before of course :P

I started on Laser ....... forums and came over here because my interests changed more to gas lasers. But, It was strongly suggested by members from there or those on both, before I came, not to bring up pointers or I would never hear the end of it.

Not everyone with a pointer is a 16 year old idiot, pointing them at a helicopter. IMHO Flaming about pointers only discourages people from posting on here and prevents some of us from learning from others here.

I'm hitting 50 this year and I probably have that many pointers also. OTOH I also have a wahzoo of HeNe's, a couple Argons, a few DPSS labbys, plus the other glass tube things like dekatrons and UV tubes, Nixie tubes and clocks and a very cool old geissler tube. I like to learn, starting with a pointer is the first step to building an RGB projector, IMO.

OK done with rant, time to get flamed!
This. Believe me if I could reach through my monitor and smack people upside the head there'd be a lot of people with headaches over at LPF but icecruncher nailed it. For every idiot you see misusing a pointer there are dozens who don't. I too started with pointers and occasionally still build one but got bored with them and moved on to HeNe's, argons, and finally projectors which is why I joined here. I've been doing a lot of reading here over the last month or so while planning my first DIY projector and while there's an amazing wealth of info here some people seem to have forgotten they were the 'newb' at one point too.

Could say, "why don't you go outside and play Hide-and-go-fuck-yourself. that is polite. I hear that game is all the rage with spammers right now

When I first came here, this was all swamp. Everyone said I was daft to build a castle on a swamp, but I built in all the same, just to show them. It sank into the swamp. So I built a second one. That sank into the swamp. So I built a third. That burned down, fell over, then sank into the swamp. But the fourth one stayed up. And that's what you're going to get, Lad, the strongest castle in all of England.
