I've been reading this thread with interest and pondering whether or not to throw my two penneth (0.02 cents worth for those over the pond
) into the mix.
I have owned DT40's, CT6215h's and some of the new EMS7000's. Let me start off by saying I never had any problems with the DT40's during the relatively short time they were in my projector. At the time I had these I wasn't into comparing stuff, they performed well and that, as they say, was that.
I did however, For a very short while have two RGB projectors, one fitted with the high speed CT6215's (& high speed amps) and the other fitted with the new modified EMS7000's. The CT6215's will take pretty much any abuse you care to throw at them and they will scream and shout as you push up the scan angle, but they always looked great. The EMS7000's can also be pushed to the limits, but they just don't look quite the same as the CT's. Bear in mind this isn't a scientific observation, it's just an observation from everyday use whilst projecting abstracts and some limited graphics.
Would I buy another set of CT6215h's rather than another set of EMS7000's if money was no object?... Yes, I think I would. I can't really define the reasoning behind this other than the fact that the CT's just had the edge and the abstracts somehow just looked a little better.
Now, let's put this into some sort of perspective...
The DT40's are a great budget scanner and are excellent value for money.
The EMS7000's I would consider to be the next level up and are also an excellent scanner
The CT6251h's are a superb scanner and deserve to be at the top of the pile.
HOWEVER... There is a lot of difference in price between the three scanners and because of that reason alone it's not really fair to do direct comparisons, in my humble opinion the above is the order that they should be in. I wouldn't expect the DT's to outperform the CT's simply based on price alone. It comes back to the old saying that you tend to get what you pay for.
My advice to anyone reading this and thinking of making a scanner purchase would be to feel comfortable in the fact that whichever level of scanner you decide to purchase (from the above) you'll get something that represents excellent value for money at that level
