of course, we can always just store the backup to a disc or disk or HDD, and there we have it.... these chips are hard to come by these days... still up for it?

Hi I have a tube of 10 2764 free if someone pays for the shipping
-
that sounds awesome... I'll get shipping
-
try 27c64
They are OTP.
(otp = one time programmable)
Jameco.co has them. 3.75 each. Its the wierd ones like 2716 that need multiple voltages that are GONE.
It takes serious amounts of 257 nm and/or 356 nm light to erase a eprom. I've seen lots of proms with missing stickers that are fine, some used in daylight. You might want to have a look at the power to the board or the bus latch chip. But I think you know that.

I have seen an eprom directly behind a fluorescent bulb get a bit corrupted, not enough to erase it, but enough to make the machine go a little nuts randomly
-
Steve, it seems like you might know a bit more than I do... as far as I can tell, the power is going to the board, but I'm not sure what a bus latch chip is... any suggestions? think you could give it a quick once over if you have the time?

Being an ML-1000 owner I followed this thread with a bit of interest since I don't know what you're talking about and don't want to end up with a dead machine. Forgive me but, what's a eprom and is it something that easily fails? If there is a backup to be had, I'm in for one of whatever people figure out. My luck is I'd have an effect with the Mobo booked for a client and have it crap out on me so, better to be prepared with backups.

An eprom is a memory chip that can be erased by ultraviolet light
-
I should clarify.... it's a programmable memory chip.

Ok so...intentionally?? Accidentally?? Don't open the case in daylight?? Find a dealer for tiny Raybans?? I could use just a touch more definition here.
(Note smilie is protected from UV rays.)
