Default Hello! I seem to have accidentally bought a laser....

    Hi All,

I'm new to the forum (and forums in general really) and just wanted to say Hi.

I'm really only here because I seem to have accidently bought a 5w RGB laser on FleaBay...

(I thought I was bidding on another LED moving head spotlight, but apparently not... It's just been built in the same style casing! I really need to read the descriptions better)

I'm based in Luton, Beds, UK and would welcome some advice... I'm a touring lighting and sound professional by trade and have worked with lasers before, but usually someone else looks after them... I've tended to stay away from being responsible for the 'coherent' lights for HSE and financial reasons, but have always been fascinated by how great they can look.

It seems either prices have come down a bit if my FleaBay purchase is anything to go by, or I've bought a POS. ;o)

Apparently it'll be in tomorrow morning's post.

I'll try to get some pics up when it arrives, however the specs are quoted as this...

    Laser colour: RGB
Output power (at diodes): Minimum: 2500mW, maximum 5000mW
    Power red: >1200mW/650 red
    Power green: >300mW/532nm
    Power blue: >1000mW/445nm
Control mode: ILDA, DMX, sound to light, auto, master/slave
    DMX channels: 15
    Scanner: 25.000pps
    Max. scan angle: +/- 30°
    Laser class: 4
    Modulation: Analogue
Built in patterns & animations: 100+ (liquid skies, fences, tunnels...)
Movement range: Pan: 540°, tilt: 270°
    Movement resolution: 16bit
Laser safety: Compliance to EN 60825, integrated safety circuits
    Display: Digital
    Power supply: 110V-250V, 50Hz/60Hz
    Power consumption: 450W
    Dimensions: 600x430x400mm (LxWxH)
    Weight: 19Kg

Any advice helpful advice welcome... just please don't laugh to loudly!
If in doubt... Give it a clout?

    Hi Wookie,

    Welcome to PL.

    HAH!!!!!!! this is frickin hilarious.

It could have turned out way worse. It could have been a mental ex girlfriend fronting up at your door... "hey guess what, I'm pregnant!"

In the case of this 5watt laser..... Wookie.......Click image for larger version.

I am just marveling that a 2.5w laser could, under some scenario, do 5w. And I thought LW was bad...

Movement range: Pan: 540°, tilt: 270°?? So this is an RGB laser built into a moving head case. Hm... this should complicate things a bit (safetywise)

In any case, the UK group or PLers is really big and knowledgable. There should be plenty of help for you.
And like the others have said... i think you are on the edge of this money pit hobby, looking down the pit... enjoy the slide

Default I'm not addicted. Really. I'm not!

Thanks for the warm welcome guys.

I paid about £240 for the unit.

I suppose for that money it was a really good buy (well, if it was the led powered moving head I was expecting it would be good as they retail at around £900!)

If the moving head bit is going to be a problem, I suppose I could just admit that I have an addiction and attempt to build my own housing for it as a standard projector...

If that's the case, then I suppose i'll be in the market for some Pangolin stuff soon then...
If in doubt... Give it a clout?

This feels like a case of 'if it seems to good to be true....'

Fingers crossed you get it, but even stripped for parts its worth significantly more than that. Although the sellers history doesn't really show that he's ever sold much lighting related kit, ever... and no feedback yet on any of the heads he has sold.

You are using Bonetti's defense against me, ah?

I thought it fitting, considering the rocky terrain.
