I would lean towards XP. I've had a couple glitches with QuickShow and Windows 7. Windows built in virus protection hasn't been happy with certain files in Quickshow. Just my experience though. I think others may have been fine.

Personally I would go with XP; it uses far fewer resourses and has less going on that can foul up while the lasers are going.

    I agree Aaron.
I have both OS: a XP pro Service pack 3 onboard my desktop (2GB RAM) and Windows 7 Home Premium onboard my notebook (4GB RAM).
Even if my Win7 runs under 4GB RAM, the integrated video card takes 512KB off from RAM and then Win7 is "heavier" than XP (it need more RAM for best performance: usually more than 2GB).

Me too go for XP solution. It is a lighter OS and it need much less physics resources from RAM.

Go for windows 7, support for windows xp has been dropped by windows completely, this can cause issue's for you in the near future.
Once you have windows 7 installed: disable AERO ( you can do this by adjusting the visual themes of windows).
I'm running windows 7 on a Netbook with 8GB HDD and 512mb ram and a 1600mhz processor and it runs silky smooth because of this.

About glitches and quickshow, this is being caused by AERO.
    AERO is disrecommended.

I use Win7 before, but many trouble with it. XP, off course by so far.

check these things when you have issue's with quickshow in windows 7 or vista.
(my apologies for the dutch language in the image)
The tab is compatibility and the checkmarks should be on the exact same spot for all languages as seen on the image:

I in fact created my own Windows 7 Pangolin Theme which guaranteed will prevent any problems from happening with windows 7 and pangolin software.
