10k (k = kHz = 10,000 times a second) modulation is referring to the speed of the lasers' response to changes in the analogue colour signal as opposed to 30k (k = KPPS = 30,000 Points per Second) scan rate referring to the speed the scanners are tuned to perform at.

Ok, so the 10k has nothing to do with the scanners. It is strictly the speed of the lasers pwm? That makes more sense. I thought it was something to do with the scanner speed and I was afraid that I might be buying 30k scanners in a 10k controller and wasting that scanner performance.

Anyone have any suggestions on whether the H-RGB1000 with DT30 would be a good starting point for a (mostly) graphic animation laser show? I do already have Pango QS and FB3.

Thank you all for helping out a noob. Eventually I would like to build my own laser, but to start out I would like to buy a turnkey system that will be impressive enough to make for a really nice show in the settings I described above.

Also, what is the difference in shipping via carton and flight case? I hate that shipping is such a large portion of the price on these systems considering that they aren't THAT large. Shipping seems really expensive!

I have a question about packing/shipping and payment. Have any of you found a better way than FeePal to pay? Also, what is the flight case like and is it worth getting?

I'm leaning strongly towards the budget shattering H-RGB1200 and would like to save on un-necessary expenses.

Any help in these areas would really be appreciated. Thank you!

I normally pay with western union......costs less than $20 to send payment. And i would definatelu get the flightcase.....you wont be able to find a better price on one.

Thanks for all the advice. I pulled the trigger on a "way over budget" H-RGB1200 DT30 system with the flight case. I will try to post videos and reviews ASAP and generally try to report back on the entire experience with Goldenstar lasers. So far Winni has been very helpful and where I had trouble understanding some things, some of you here on the PL forum filled in the gaps for us. Thanks for all the guidance and I will try pay back for it with a detailed review in this thread or at least linked from this thread, whichever would be better.

I bought a couple of the S-RGB1000A projectors to use as satellite projectors.

You can see the product page here.

First off I would like to say that Winni is great to work with, she replies very fast and is easy to work with.

One of the rubber feet on the flightcase fell off during shipping, it wasn't due to bad construction quality because the rest of the feet are on really tight, I assume DHL must have bumped it pretty hard along the way somewhere, I am working with Winni to get a replacement.

The flight cases were covered in tape from shipping, and it left a huge sticky mess. It's going to take me a while with googone to get it all off.

    Now, onto the projector.
    The specs advertised is:
    200mW and 300mW 638nm 1.5mm, 1.2mrad
    100mW 532nm 3mm, 2mrad
    500mW 445nm 4x2mm, 2x0.5mrad

The blue and the green were as advertised, each projector was producing 85mW of green and 470mW of blue. Taking into account the optics loss, I would say that is on spec.

The red is a whole different story though. Instead of two modules it was just one and the beam was NOT 1.5mm, 1.2mrad. I measured it as 3.5*1.3mrad, 4.5*3mm. It was a single module with a multimode mitsubishi diode, and no correction. The beam is massive and rectangular. The power wasn't even up to spec, it metered at 370mW on one projector, and 400mW on the other. I'm not upset about the power though, as the white balance is already pink enough with that much red, but the beam size is really disappointing and I am displeased with it.
One of the green moduels also has a blanking problem, and it fades away on certain frames.

The construction of the projectors is okay, the modules are mounted onto thin plates that prop them up to the height of the optics mounts. I don't think it will be a problem, but if they heat up and expand it could throw off the alignment.

The built in features on this projector are actually neat and useful. The projector has a built in LCD screen on the back for easy operation. The sound mode works really well, the beams match up really well with the music, a lot better than what I have seen with the REKE. The projector also feature a SD card mode, you can load .ild files on the card (Winni included a 1gb card for each projector) and you can select the frames with the LCD display panel. It also has DMX which I have not tried, and an auto mode with pre-programmed frames. You can also select the scan size and scan speed in the menu. ILDA control works quite well, and the scan angle is unaffected despite going through a show card (this was a problem with other projectors I had)

I am getting a blanking problem too, but I assumed it might be something to do with the way a frame was programmed...

Hmmm... I hope it isn't some sort of problem. What would cause that? I have completely different scanners. And it doesn't seem consistent.

Blanking is to do with the lasers, the scanners don't have anything to do with it (I think). Our modules look the same, but you got the 200mW version. I was displaying some more frames today and the green slowly started to fade, and it kept on fading and now it's almost impossible to see I think it's safe to say that it's busted.

Mabye this is showing a trend - that goldenstar ended up with a dud batch of green lasers; whom when warmed up, do not blank properly and fail. This is usually what happens to a pointer when operated outside its duty cycle requirements - it dims even though its got a fresh battery inside. Mabye these greens are just pointer cores in a box shaped module, with an analogue driver stage added.

Hmm, honestly that would be a best case scenario in some ways. It seems like changing out a green laser would be relatively easy to do, no?

Right now I am pretty blue-weighted. I could replace mine with a slightly higher powered green (say 250mW) of god quailty with relative ease... I think.

But it wouldn't be good for Goldenstar if they just shipped several bad units to active and vocal members of two very popular forums and it would be even worse if they did nothing about it or started dodging emails.

I hope Winni comes through on this, I bought from her because it certainly seemed like she was committed to establishing a solid reputation on these forums. I don't understand how it wouldn't be pretty bad for business to have this happen and not respond with fair resolutions right away!
