    Steve-o!

Where the hell have you been? Haven't seen you in ages dude...

The axicons are for combining multiple diodes into a single beam. It's an alternative to the time-honored (but very cumbersome) knife-edge mirror trick.

Imagine the sharpened tip of a pencil. Now imagine that instead of a round cone, you had 4 flat faces that tapered to a point. That's what an axicon looks like, except that the faces are mirrors (obviously). There's even a design where the very center (where the pencil lead would be) is drilled out so that a 5th beam can come up through the center.

These aren't ready to be tested yet. Steve Roberts and Mike Lawson worked together to get the design hammered out, and Mike just finished polishing the faces of the test samples. Now Steve has to get them coated so they'll reflect the beams... My guess is that he'll have something in a month or so.

Then he has to build a mount for the thing, not to mention the 4 adjustable mounts for the diodes... Lots of work still to do!

corporate hush hush, I'm here interviewing and I cannot disclose the facility location , I'm quite sure they will NOT watch me pee. the penalities for a infraction around here mean you wont make it off the campus in one piece. front end loader parked by the building.
