Default Colour options - you thoughts please

Ok, so I have almost completed building 2 new satellite projectors with 532 and 445nm.

QuickShow provides an option for 2 colour laser however green and red are the two colours.

What do you think I should do with my modulation?

    1. Green and Blue with the "3 colour laser" setting (red missing)
    2. Both Green and Blue on the Intensity channel (single cyan colour always)

(dnar Expects plenty of "go full RGB" answers!). Yes yes, eventually... I need the wallet to recover first!

    Cheers.

I think you should do the third option and use the red and green channels to drive your blue and green lasers respectively.
This way there is nothing 'missing' AND you get the option of showing just green or blue rather than cyan all the time

You are using Bonetti's defense against me, ah?

I thought it fitting, considering the rocky terrain.

Hmm, that was my option 1?

I am kicking myself for not ordering more 3D mounts and red dichros as I have spare brass mounts, diodes, G2 lens and P3 flexmods... :smacks head:

In the beginning these sats were going to be cyan only, but I have been having a cranial conflict during the build....

The Goldstar cases have panned out pretty good, how about you Norty? I'll post some pics once the finishing touches have been applied and they are fully lined up. My first "3 projector show" is in a couple of weeks.

Sorry brain fade, always worse after the second sleep after a long gig. My arms can barely type either...

Not really progressed my builds yet. I still need to take 1 mm off the width of the top plates which will be easier now I got a decent workbench/vice thing for Xmas.
I'm also getting 2 new greens from Rob so I've refrained from stripping the old projectors out, just in case they are needed for work in the meantime. Timescales have slipped unfortunately, I had hoped to be all done with them by end of Jan (I'm off for 11 days on holiday in the middle, I'm not that slow!) but it'll be into Feb now I think.

I had 5 spare 3 axis mounts that I was going to sell, but glad I kept old of them now, as I'm going to use 2 mirrors per colour so I can fine tune each lasers height very accurately for the nearfield alignment. I've found it easier than very fine shimming of the heads, and this part, if not done very well, can seriously impact just how well thing displays ultimately.

Just file the top covers at a slight angle as I did. They drop in/out easily.

Adjusting the height of all laser modules is a pain, but for me shimming has been the only solution. Nothing is perfect, that's for sure. There are 2 battles, beam height and beam "horizontal-ness" (tm).

How does your arrangement look with 2 mirrors per laser?

Why dont you just use it on RGB and set up your cues so they contain blue and green only?

This wouldn't be a issue with QM2000 palette setup as you aren't fixed to a few options, so I assume Beyond will be the same...

Yep, this I will try. Thanks Dave.

BTW, what would it cost for me to upgrade to Beyond?

Well blue will be my 'reference' so this will only use 1 mirror. It will also be the longest path as all my dichros are pass blue.
So, looking at the baseplate from the front:

Blue will fire towards you, off a single bounce mirror, then left down to the galvos.
Green will be mounted behind the blue module, facing to the left. This will come off of a bounce mirror, towards us onto the reflect green/pass blue dichro.
Red will be behind the green, down to a mirror, then towards you onto the reflect R/pass BG dichro

I should mention, my blue is a very small homebuild using cutdown aixiz mount and Laserman532 mount, so it doesn't take up hardly any room. It's wider than it is deep.
I think I'm probably getting the new compact laserwave 532 heads too. Should be acres of space to play with.

I got the bug of using an extra mirror from when I did my bigger laser, it just made alignment much easier, and you didn't have to settle for 'nearly but not quite'

hey wayne, here is my implementation of bounce mirrors. i just put it all together as i am still building my rgb, so nothing is aligned etc etc. i hope it helps to get the general idea.i use bounce mirrors on all three colours

plus, colourwise, i suggest you wait a bit and see what comes out of all the 640 mitsubishi flashlight story and then go RGB on your sats, too. i think we are getting there, sooner than you might expect
