    Default QM2000 Memory Issues

Not sure I can remember all the error codes and so forth but, anyone have a QM crap out on them? One of mine is installed in a Dell PD01X docking station that I use with a Dell Precision M70. Yesterday, it started acting up. When I clicked to open showtime or LD2000 or whatever, it came up as being offline. Then, I turned everything off, turned it back on and it worked for a bit. Then later, the same thing happened again. I pulled the card, checked to make sure the memory was seated, made sure the board wasn't loose but got nowhere. I reinstalled LD2000 and still ran into the fact that it wouldn't connect.

I have a second QM in another PD01X station that I use with a Latitude D810. Today at work, I swapped the laptops and got the Precision to work on the the other PD01X. The Latitude couldn't connect on the suspect board. I brought everything home and, first swapped the QM's in the docking stations to rule out a bad docking station. Neither computer recognized a QM at that point. I swapped them back again and, the Latitude worked fine with the PD01X that it usually works with.

The Precision however, continued not to work. I ran the LD2000_Network app. I tried the QM2000Net_config program. It finally showed up as being online. I then tried to open showtime and got a memory error message. I tried opening LD2000 and got another error message indicating it might have been trying to use an old version of a file with a new install. I completely tried to uninstall any trace of anything Pangolin on the computer and started fresh with another LD2000 install.

Once finished, tried to start LD2000 and got the same error messages. It's suggesting reseating the memory or the board or.... call Pangolin. My next thing is to try and swap memory from a known working QM with the suspect one and see if THAT does anything.

Normally, I don't get this frustrated with troubleshooting but, I don't understand enough about these damn things to know what else to check. Just want to see if I can solve it without the whole hassle of shipping it off to Pangolin if it's something stupid.

Oh, and if I put the Latitude on the suspect docking station, and then try to open LD2000, it still shows offline but, if I then go to open Showtime, it shows it as being online but, when I click save and continue, it gives me an error about "operands" and thinking that it's trying to use files from an old version. I've never had but one version on this computer to begin with.

    Brad, reinstall LD2000, update it.

Clean the pins on the QM2000 (with pure alcohol).

these things combined should solve it all.

... And give me a call at the office later when you are in front of the impacted computers and with the suspected trouble card.

I have a QM2000 card doing the same thing to me. Will have to hit up Pangolin for a swap I guess. It real fun when the card craps out and sends a static beam! Shutter dosnt even close. Huge Danger, must restart system and power off. Put another QM2000 card into the box and changed zones to the 2nd card and no random lock ups. So I'd have to guess the install was fine. Installing a new machine to test suspect qm2000 card.....Vidal Wolf was mucking on the machine and had it crash maybe 4-5 times on him. I should have taken pics of the static beam crash's. First time I have seen a qm2000 card do static beams on me.

That's odd, the only time I've ever seen a static beam out of the QM2K is when you power off the host PC. I've owned several QM2K's and a couple QM32's and can count the number of times I've had a crash on one hand. Been using them for about 15 years now. Either way, contacting Pangolin directly will get the problem solved.

I've had what picasso had happen to me.
The reason is that the golden contacts on the QM2000 board are not cleaned properly (If your having that issue).
Despite your not seeing any filth, use a pure alcohol cloth, whipe it clean and reinsert the QM.
    Problem never occured anymore.

@Aaron - I won't have time to attack this problem again until Thursday but, I'll try and do it at work during the day so I can call if necessary.

Speaking about having QM's crash and lock up, I've had it happen a number of times on the Dell 810 mentioned above. I attribute it to needing to do a reinstall of XP but, haven't had the time. Actually, I can't say it's the QM, since the show continues to play without sound. It's the laptop that locks up. Usually it happens within the first two or three songs but, if I then reboot, it will run shows for hours without a problem. Just one of those little joys that keep life interesting!

Uninstall all codecs and install the k-lite codec pack: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/...codec_pack.htm
Other codec packs can result in weird behaviour.
I had a problem in the past with autoplay not loading a show (at the last step) it had issues with the audio codec I figured out.

    Gentlemen,

I'm please to report it worked like a charm. The eraser & alcohol swab seemed to do the trick. They didn't appear dirty in the slightest but, who knows...

Kudos - and I'm going to do it to all of my QM's just to be safe.

@masterpj - I don't know how one goes about removing existing codecs but, I would like to try this on my other system as I also have gotten messages that Showtime hasn't been able to load a music file due to not having the codec yet, I can play the file in Windows Media Player. One example is a show Allthat created for me that I haven't had a chance to play yet since the MP3 won't load. Yeah... I know I should be using wav's or, ripping it directly from the CD but, most all my other shows with MP3's as the music track load and play fine.
